LANSING, Mich., May 8, 2024 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed its fiscal 2024-25 budget today. It includes a substantial investment in Michigan’s environment as recommended in the budget for the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, prioritizing cleaner water, air and land in our communities. After the vote, state Rep. Donavan McKinney (D-Detroit) issued the following statement on the budget:

“I’m so proud of the great things we’ve achieved with this budget, especially the crucial investments for protecting our water, air and land. The $50 million invested in replacing lead service lines in 10% of Michigan’s poorest communities will improve the quality and safety of water and address the long-standing environmental injustices concentrated in vulnerable communities. We are investing locally with this budget where people need us most — right in their own communities.”
