Democratic lawmaker uplifts 5 local groups set to receive funding to train employees
DETROIT, Mich., Dec. 18, 2025 — This week, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity announced $25 million will be awarded to 449 businesses around the state through Going PRO Talent Fund grants. Of that total, nearly $258,000 will be allocated to five Detroit based organizations to help train and upskill workers. Following the announcement of these grants, state Rep. Joe Tate (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“Over the last several years, it has been a top priority of mine to support and advocate for grant programs like the Going PRO Talent Fund. This program ensures that organizations across our community receive the necessary funds to expand their capacity to invest in employee development. With affordability challenges impacting so many Michiganders, good jobs remain one of our strongest tools to ease that burden. This funding supports not only our businesses, but also the hardworking people who power them. I will continue doing everything I can to protect and strengthen jobs in Detroit and throughout our state.”
The five organizations awarded Going PRO Talent Fund grants include:
- Samaritas-Detroit — $53,225
- New Center Stamping — $63,795
- Detroit City Football Club, LLC — $35,140
- Detroit Economic Growth Corporation — $40,000
- Walker-Miller Energy Services, LLC — $65,700
