DETROIT, March 3, 2026 — State Rep. Joe Tate (D-Detroit) is proud to kick off March is Reading Month throughout Michigan’s 9th House District, encouraging students and families to embrace the power of reading. Throughout the Month of March, Tate will visit local schools such as Detroit Prep and Nichols Elementary-Middle School, among others, to read with students and promote literacy initiatives aimed at strengthening educational outcomes for Detroit youth. Before his first school visits, Tate issued the following statement:
“Reading opens doors to opportunity. When we invest in literacy, we invest in our children’s future and the future of Detroit. During my term as Speaker of the House, I made sure that we made historic investments in education and expanded literacy supports like stronger dyslexia screening tools. But we know there’s more work to do to ensure every child reads at grade level, and I’ll keep pushing for policies that give students, schools and teachers the tools they need. By showing up and reading with our young people, we send a clear message: their education matters, and we believe in their potential.”
