LANSING, Mich., Jan. 13, 2021 — State Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Detroit) was sworn in today as representative for the 2021-2022 legislative session. The swearing-in ceremony marked the formal opening of Michigan’s 101st Legislature.

“I ran for office because I saw how the inequities in our societal systems were hurting people,” said Thanedar. “Now that I have the honor to serve in the Legislature, I am going to do everything in my power to level the playing field for Michigan families and make sure everyone has an equal opportunity for success.”

Rep. Thanedar is serving his first term representing the 3rd House District, which includes a portion of northern Detroit. Thanedar is an immigrant, Ph.D. scientist, entrepreneur, husband, father and grandfather who grew up in a working-class family that suffered financial hardship. He plans to use his expertise, passion and dedication to bring real change for Michiganders through progressive legislation to improve equality, access and security for all.
