HASLETT, Mich., Oct. 28, 2025 — In the recently passed state budget, $750,000 was allocated for necessary repairs to the Lake Lansing Dam. Yesterday, state Rep. Penelope Tsernoglou (D-East Lansing) spoke at a press conference celebrating the funding, along with Ingham County Commissioner, Tanya L. Pratt, and President of the Lake Lansing Property Owners Association, Claudia Kerbawy. The investment will maintain the safety of the Lake Lansing Dam, preserving local infrastructure and neighborhood stability.
“Protecting homes and neighborhoods starts with strong infrastructure,” Tsernoglou said. “The funds we were able to secure in the state budget are essential to repairing the aging dam and ensuring that Lake Lansing Park continues to be a place of fun and joy in our community.”
Lake Lansing provides recreational opportunities for residential properties around the lake, as well as the surrounding community. Both Lake Lansing Park North and South attract thousands of visitors each year who take advantage of park amenities, including beach access, picnic areas and boating. The lake is also used by the Lansing Sail Club, representing both Haslett and Okemos sail teams, as well the Michigan State University sail team.
“Our work was focused on ensuring residents and government agencies have a shared voice in securing funding that impacts property values, public safety and educational opportunities,” Pratt said. “We are thankful to Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Sarah Anthony, state Sen. Sam Singh and state Rep. Penelope Tsernoglou. Without the State’s support, we would not be able to proceed with this important project without putting additional burdens on our taxpayers.”
“It is amazing when we get to collaborate with our local government officials to provide for the folks in and around our community,” Tsernoglou added. “This investment will have a real impact on the quality of life in our community and it shows what we are capable of when we put people first in our politics. I am so proud of local and state leaders for standing up for Ingham County and ensuring everyone can enjoy strong infrastructure that helps create safe and fun communal spaces.”
