LANSING, Mich., Jan. 21, 2021 — State Rep. Regina Weiss (D-Oak Park) was appointed Democratic Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee on School Aid and Michigan Department of Education today for the 2021-22 legislative term. Weiss is serving her first term representing Michigan’s 27th House District, and as a former teacher brings an in-depth knowledge of Michigan’s public schools to her role on the committee. Following the announcement, Weiss issued the following statement:

“This is exactly why I ran for office – to be a voice for educators in Lansing. As a former teacher, I believe I have a firm grasp on the many issues plaguing our public school systems and know what it’s going to take to bring forth the real, meaningful change our schools and students deserve. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity, and ready to get to work.”

Rep. Weiss was also appointed to the House Committee on Appropriations, the Subcommittee on Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, as well as the Subcommittee on Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Insurance and Financial Services.
