Witwer, Anthony Welcome New Olivet Fire Engine, Support Firefighters at Push-In Ceremony

 

OLIVET, Mich., Aug. 25, 2026 — State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Twp.) and state Sen. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) attended the Olivet Fire Department’s push-in ceremony yesterday to welcome their new fire engine into the station. In her role as chair of the House Appropriations Committee during the last legislative term, Witwer partnered with Senate Appropriations Chair Sarah Anthony, to help secure the $1 million needed for Olivet to purchase an upgraded fire truck to ensure they are equipped to respond to all calls in the city and regional emergencies, increasing public safety for the community.

“It was an honor to bring home funding for the Olivet Fire Department and to spend time in the community welcoming this new engine and thanking our brave firefighters for their continued commitment to keeping Olivet’s families safe,” Witwer said. “Having capable and updated fire engines is essential for our skilled firefighters to respond fast and save lives. The Olivet Fire Department has long provided coverage for our region, and I will continue working to  bring back the funding and resources they need to support their work.”

Both Witwer and Anthony took the opportunity to speak at the ceremony, pointing to the Olivet Fire Department’s indispensable service to the community, including protecting the city’s economic engines in the University of Olivet and acres of family farms.

“I am proud to help welcome this new fire truck into service for the Olivet community,” Anthony said. “It’s an honor to stand alongside Representative Witwer and Chief Collins in celebrating this critical investment we worked so hard to secure for our residents. Budgets are moral documents, and this investment reflects our commitment to public safety and ensuring that our first responders here in Mid-Michigan have the infrastructure they need to save lives.”
