LANSING — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer presented her budget recommendations today for the 2019-20 fiscal year to a joint meeting of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees. Among her recommendations were significant allotments to clean up and protect our water and increasing school funding by $507 million — the largest increase since 2002. In response to the recommendation, state Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township) issued the following statement:

“I’m grateful for the governor’s leadership in working to repeal the damaging retirement tax passed in 2011, and am proud to have already introduced legislation to see her budget proposal made a reality. Our seniors deserve the full benefit of the retirement they worked so hard to earn, and I will continue to fight for legislation that protects them, our children, and anyone else who has suffered because of poor policy making over the past decade.”
