“I’m so grateful that I could secure this funding for the police in my community,” Witwer said. “Our robust investments in law enforcement and other first responders throughout the state will help keep us safe and make sure that we are doing everything we can to recruit new members. They play a vital role in making Michigan such an excellent place to live, work and play.”

The 2023-24 budget will provide the funding necessary to graduate 50 new state troopers. In addition, it will upgrade their resources to help police solve more crimes, provide funding to clear gun case backlogs in Detroit and Wayne County, improve police training, and provide all first responders with additional mental health resources to help them cope with the trauma they so often endure keeping Michiganders safe.

“Funding for a state-of-the-art mobile command unit would not have been possible without the generous allocation awarded to us from Gov. Whitmer with the recommendations of the Senate and House Appropriations committees chairwomen, state Sen. Sarah Anthony and state Rep. Angela Witwer,” Reich said. “I would like to express my sincere appreciation for our award of these funds.”
