Witwer Helps Secure $2.5 Million in Relief for Delta Township Homeowners, Helping Pay for Bank Intercounty Drain Upgrades
State lawmaker pursues critical grant funding from EGLE to continue bringing down the cost of the project affecting 1,900 property owners
DELTA TWP., Mich., April 28, 2026 — In her latest successful effort to bring home financial relief to property owners in Delta Township, state Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Twp.) was instrumental in securing a $2.5 million grant to offset the costs of Eaton County’s Bank Intercounty Drain project on residents. The grant comes through the Michigan Department of Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) and contributes to a patchwork of funding methods for the $60 million reconstruction project that has financially burdened 1,900 property owners.
“I want to thank the Eaton County Board of Commissioners for voting to pursue this grant funding, and I am grateful to EGLE for approving the grant swiftly, so we can deliver this needed relief to Delta Township residents,” Witwer said. “With costs rising and the affordability crisis worsening, the last thing homeowners in our community need is another bill. I am working hard alongside Eaton County leaders to bring home every dollar possible to bring down the bill on residents for this project.”
Witwer has continuously worked to increase state funding support to relieve residents of high costs, helping to secure $5 million last term as the former Chair of the House Appropriations Committee and requesting $10 million in relief in subsequent years. She also recently introduced legislation in a bipartisan package to clarify what petitioning the drain commissioner means for residents and require overhead review to ensure costs of construction are reasonable and homeowners are notified of costs well ahead of payment deadlines.
“To be clear, this reconstruction project is certainly essential for the drain’s upkeep. However, this process has also made it clear that our drain code does not offer transparency about process and costs to residents,” Witwer continued. “That’s why I am sponsoring legislation with my colleagues to update Michigan’s drain code, to check drain commissioners’ powers and to truly put residents first in this process. I am serious about leading this legislation across the finish line, but I will also continue pursuing avenues of state funding relief for residents right now.”
