LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2026 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her final State of the State address yesterday evening to a joint legislative body and guests, sharing her priorities for the year ahead. In her speech, the governor shared proposals to create jobs, lower costs, build more affordable housing and continue building on record investments in education and literacy.
In response to the address, state Rep. Stephen Wooden (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement:
“Tonight, Gov. Whitmer laid out an agenda that is laser-focused on what Michiganders need most – lower costs, more housing and affordable health care. Now it’s on us in the Legislature to act and I am ready to work for real, long-term solutions that strengthen your pocketbook, including a budget that is people-focused, responsible and on time.”
