Xiong Presents $500,000 Commemorative Check to St. Clair Shores Public Library

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich., Feb. 23, 2026 — State Rep. Mai Xiong (D-Warren) presented a commemorative check to St. Clair Shores Public Library staff this morning to celebrate the $500,000 in funding she secured for the facility in the FY 2025-26 budget. The investment will support critical renovations to the library to enhance their reading and learning spaces.

“It was truly my honor to help secure and deliver this funding to the St. Clair Shores Public Library,” Xiong said. “Our library is so much more than a building filled with books — it’s a vital resource for children and teens, and a lifeline for adults who rely on access to computers and the internet to apply for jobs, complete important paperwork and stay connected. I’m deeply grateful to the dedicated library staff and city leaders who worked tirelessly to make this renovation possible. Because of their efforts, residents can continue to count on the library as a trusted community hub for years to come.”

Xiong joined Stephanie Fair, director of St. Clair Shores Public Library, and Kip C. Walby, mayor of St. Clair Shores, at the press conference. Both expressed their excitement for the opportunity to amplify the library’s mission to promote literacy, community and learning.

“On behalf of the library board, staff and myself, I want to express my sincere gratitude to state Rep. Mai Xiong for securing the $500,000 in funding to support the library renovation,” Fair said. “This investment is more than just a dollar amount. It’s a statement that our community matters, access to information matters and that our library will grow as a welcoming, modern, and accessible space that is valued at the state level. This support will allow us to modernize key program and service areas, improve technology access and create more flexible functional spaces that reflect how our community uses the library today”.

“Thank you to state Rep. Mai Xiong. She’s in her first [full] term in the district here, she jumped right into it, came to St. Clair Shores and asked us what we needed. She went up to Lansing and delivered,” Walby said. “On behalf of 60,000 residents, she delivered a critical $500,000 that made a difference in this library. We are over the moon thankful for what has been done.”
