State Rep. Stephanie A. Young (D-Detroit) was sworn in today as representative for the 2021-2022 legislative session. The swearing-in ceremony marked the formal opening of Michigan’s 101st Legislature.

“As a life-long Detroiter, I’m so humbled by the opportunity to serve as the voice of my fellow community members at our state Capitol,” said Young. “I take this responsibility as an elected official incredibly seriously, and look forward to advocating for stronger educational outcomes, better job opportunities and a criminal justice system that lives up to the creed of liberty and justice for all.”

Rep. Young is serving her first term representing the 8th House District, which includes the northwest Detroit communities of Bethune, Brightmoor, Castle Rouge, College Park, Crary-St. Marys and Grandmont-Rosedale. Rep. Young served as the first Executive Director of Detroit’s Community Education Commission, building on past experience working with several former state representatives, numerous Detroit mayoral administrations and community advocacy organizations, including the Detroit Area Agency on Aging.
