LANSING, Mich., Feb. 11, 2026 — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s budget proposal was unveiled as part of the executive budget recommendation. This plan outlines her preferred funding priorities and provides the legislature with a starting point for negotiations. After attending the executive recommendation presentation as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, state Rep. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor) issued the following statement:

“Michigan families are working harder than ever, but rising costs are making it tougher to get ahead. With federal cuts hitting our state hard, this budget is our chance to fight back and put people first. We are lowering the cost of living by securing free school meals, universal pre-K, and debt-free career training. By fixing our roads and transit, we’re ensuring that a daily commute doesn’t drain a family’s wallet. I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues to pass a budget that delivers real affordability for Michiganders.”
