Welcome Back to School! Happy back-to-school season, Eaton County! I wish all of our students, teachers and staff across the district a safe and successful school year! Olivet Fire Truck Pushing In Ceremony for New Fire Truck Last week, I joined special guests state Sen. Sarah Anthony and great friends at Olivet Firefighter’s Association for the push-in ceremony for the Olivet Fire Department’s new fire truck. Chair Anthony and I brought home $1 million dollars for this new modern truck for the first responders, helping them to better protect our town, university, farmers and parks.
Announcement: Gov. Whitmer Secures Funding for 75 Local Parks and Outdoor Recreation Projects The governor recently announced 75 land acquisition and park development projects across Michigan that are receiving grant funds through the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. I am pleased to share that the City of Potterville and Eaton County are two of the recipients on this list receiving grants. Eaton County is receiving $220,200 to acquire 50 acres adjacent to Lincoln Brick Park along the Grand River for new amenities, habitat restoration and trail access. Potterville is receiving $267,600 to extend a non-motorized trail at Alliance Lake Park, adding pickleball courts, a trailhead and accessible parking. Congratulations to both the City of Potterville and Eaton County on receiving these funds for their projects!
Presented July Small Business of the Month Award to Sophia with Bunny Tracks Leather and Wood Emporium Last week, I met Sophia Uldriks with Bunny Tracks Leather and Wood Emporium at Evelyn Bay Coffee Shop in Charlotte to present her with her July Small Business of the Month award. Sophia — your efforts as a craftswoman, entrepreneur and first responder have not gone unnoticed. Thank you for your dedication to serving our community while also running your business.

Grand Ledge Parks and Recreation Master Plan Survey Please consider participating in the Grand Ledge Parks and Recreation Master Plan Survey! This survey is for residents and non-residents who visit Grand Ledge parks to help the Grand Ledge Parks & Recreation Commission focus on the items that should be prioritized in their planning and with their grant applications. Introduced More Bills to Reform Drain Code to Lower Costs, Improve Transparency for Michigan Households As many of you know, working on our drains has been a priority of mine. To date, I have secured $9.5 million dollars in state grants and appropriations to help with the expensive $60 million Bank Intercounty Drain project that has been an immense burden on our community and neighbors. I also joined other representatives in the House on a bipartisan drain bill package earlier this year. Last week, I introduced two more bills to help bring more reform to Michigan’s Drain Code.
