Last week, I attended the 34th Annual RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) Marquette County Volunteer Celebration to honor the 150+ senior volunteers who donate their time and talents across the county. Awards were given for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of service; last year alone, dedicated volunteers gave over 19,000 hours to our community.
Thank you to everyone who gives their time to better the lives of those around them.

Great pictures, Representative Hill! We loved having you there and your appreciation of the volunteers!
Last week, I attended the quarterly U.P. County Road Association meeting in Baraga to discuss their legislative priorities with leadership. I'm grateful for this opportunity because, without our Road Commissions, we couldn't comfortably and safely navigate the challenges of our U.P. weather. ... See MoreSee Less

I was joined by Chocolay Township Fire Chief Lee Gould for the House 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony today. Lee also serves as the Fire Marshal for Northern Michigan University, where he is responsible for vital emergency planning. We came together in front of the Capitol to honor the lives lost on and during the aftermath of the terrorist attack on 9/11 and the first responders we've lost here in Michigan over the past year. ... The online world is ever-changing, and it's our responsibility to pass common-sense laws that keep up. I joined my colleagues, State Representative John Fitzgerald and State Representative Kara Hope, to introduce a package of legislation to help combat the growing threat of online sexploitation. The package was named "Jordan D's Law" in honor of a local Marquette teenager who died of suicide after an online sexploitation scheme.
My bill in this package would mandate that local school districts, the Michigan Department of Education, Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Attorney General work together to implement educational policies on the new law. By involving our schools and law enforcement agencies, we can raise awareness and equip people with the knowledge to stay safe online.

I enjoyed touring the Slate River Preserve in Baraga County with the Nature Conservancy. It's incredible how much work goes into maintaining our forests, ensuring the natural resources of the UP will maintain their value for generations to come.
