I am heartsick to hear the news of the assassination of Minnesota Rep Melissa Hortman and her husband.
Violence is poison to democracy and is never an acceptable response to political disagreement.
But let’s be clear—violence flows out of the mouth of President Trump and from the hands of those in his administration. It is not enough for this administration to offer lukewarm condemnation.
We demand an end to the dehumanization of our immigrant neighbors, the politically motivated targeting of LGBTQ+ people, and the weaponization of our laws against elected officials. Immediately.

Pride is more than a celebration—it’s a declaration that we ALL deserve to live openly, authentically, and safely.
Especially now as we find strength in the courage of those who led before us, stand with our LGBTQ friends, and commit to a future where no one has to hide or be afraid.
Happy Pride! 🌈❤️

I urge our leaders to uphold their oaths of office and stand for the rule of law in the face of an extreme threat.
I’m grateful for everyone peacefully organizing to protect our communities, and I encourage everyone to know their rights at this pivotal moment.

Our monthly virtual conversations will restart in September. In the meantime, keep an eye out for my in-person Community Conversations and other events taking place in person this summer. We look forward to seeing you there. ... See MoreSee Less

Thank you to everyone who joined me for a Community Conversation on the vehicle noise issue. I'm grateful to my guests from Michigan Department of Transportation and Birmingham, MI Police Department for taking part in this important discussion. Our work on this is far from over, and it is going to take collaboration between community members and officials to find a sustainable solution.
If you would like to continue to voice your thoughts on Woodward Avenue, consider joining MDOT for an Open House on the M-1 Corridor Plan on Thursday, June 12. The Department will be sharing information on the plan and collect feedback at Baldwin Public Library from 3:00-6:00pm.
