Promise made. Promise kept. Today’s signing of the Michigan Hate Crime Act marks a historic, long-overdue victory in Michigan’s decades-long battle against hate crimes, and I could not be prouder to see this gold standard legislation become law after two years of enormous effort. Thank you to AG Dana Nessel, my legislative partner Representative Kristian Grant, my former legislative director Joanne Wisely, Committee Chair Representative Kara Hope, and Carolyn Normandin at the ADL for all their tremendous efforts in helping pass this bill.

This action must go down in history as one of the most grievous perversions of justice and flagrant abuses of presidential power our country has seen. Over the past decade, Donald Trump has single-handedly eroded millions of Americans’ trust in our democracy, out of his singular refusal to admit to losing an election. Appalling and dangerous.

It is going to be a very scary 4 years with this nut in charge.
What an abuse of power. He criticizes Mexico for releasing “criminals” into our country but what did he just do? Duh
My Canvassing Integrity Act prevents anyone convicted of an election crime from serving in a position to oversee or certify our elections. This bill is a critical effort in my commitment to strengthening democracy in Michigan. I’m proud to share that it passed both chambers of the Legislature and is now on the Governor’s desk, awaiting her signature!

The Jewish Federation of Detroit welcomes news of a deal to release dozens of hostages, create a framework for releasing all the hostages, and allow Israel a path forward to protect the safety and security of its citizens.
Every day for over 15 months, our community has held the hostages in our hearts, wept for their plight, prayed for their safe return, and mourned for those who we lost.
We've held close our Israeli brothers and sisters who have suffered, been displaced, fought in reserves, struggled to keep their businesses afloat, and worked to keep their families and communities alive.
There is much work to be done and significant uncertainty ahead, but we are hopeful that the first phase of this agreement will pave the way for the remaining hostages to be reunited with their families.

Grateful that Henry Ford and West Bloomfield’s longstanding partnership is leading the way in expanding access to vital mental health care for Michiganders.

Hopefully they will decide to keep Kingswood open as well, or completely redo it and expand it. 192 beds are not enough for the community that needs way more than that.
