House Dems understand not all children learn the same. That's why we’ve passed laws that will help recognize where a child needs extra support, such as those with dyslexia. #WorldDyslexiaDay
With the right tools, every kid can read with confidence! Every child deserves the chance to read and succeed! Our efforts to provide targeted resources for students with reading challenges are helping to break down barriers and give kids confidence in learning and life.

As a parent, former educator and legislator, I know that every school faces unique challenges. Our legislation empowers schools and teachers to address students' most pressing needs; whether it's improving school safety, expanding juvenile mental health resources or enhancing educational opportunities, we're making a real difference in the lives of young. Here is what that investment means for our district.🏫👩🏫

Congratulations East Kentwood High School!A huge congratulations goes out this morning to East Kentwood High School for receiving an important academic recognition. EK received a Silver level recognition for the 2024 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Roll. The previous year the school attained a Bronze level recognition. The school received this honor from the College Board to honor the efforts that "welcomed more students into AP courses and supported them on the path to college success." Our data at EK backs this up: 51% of the graduating class or 2024 took at least one AP exam during their time in high school; 30% scored a three or higher on at least one AP exam; and 15% of graduating seniors last school year took five or more AP exams during their time in high school, with at least one taken in 9th or 10 grades. This is worth celebrating! One goal in the district's Strategic Plan is to establish a Culture of Excellence, which involves implementing and upholding a common standard of excellence for school climate and instruction. This is a great example of this work taking shape in our schools. We congratulate our students on their efforts in achieving this honor and congratulate our staff, and thank them as well, for their important part in this success. Go Falcons! ... See MoreSee Less

🚨 Big News for Cascade 🚨 Thanks to a grant I secured in last year's state budget, Cascade Township is building a new pedestrian bridge next to Burton Street over the I-96 highway.
The new bridge will offer a safe path for pedestrians and bikers to cross over I-96 and connect Cascade with Kentwood and beyond.
Because of the relationship I've built with Supervisor Lesperance, we've been able to accomplish much together for the people of Cascade!
Just like the upcoming pedestrian bridge, my job is all about connecting people to help people.

It’s SepticSmart Week! As a homeowner, maintaining your septic system is essential to ensure it works effectively and efficiently with little to no impact on public health. Here in the Great Lake State, we must protect our ground and surface water and that means everyone should do their part. Protect your system and the water near you!
Remember these helpful tips:
✔ Think at the Sink: Keep fats, grease, and solids out of your drains
✔ Don’t Overload the Commode: Only flush toilet paper – nothing else!
✔ Don’t Strain Your Drain: Use water wisely and spread out usage
✔ Shield Your Field: Keep roots, cars, and animals away from your drain field
✔ Keep It Clean: Test your water and ensure your septic is leak-free
✔ Protect It and Inspect It: Regular maintenance saves money and health!
