This week, I was grateful to have several productive conversations with advocacy organizations that are doing great work right here in Michigan. It was a pleasure meeting with Equality Michigan, the Michigan Nurses Association, the Sierra Club, and the CARE House of Oakland County. Their commitment to creating meaningful change through advocacy inspires me and reminds me why this work is so important. Thank you to everyone for coming by! ... See MoreSee Less

House Republicans just killed my resolution censuring Representative Schriver for his racist speech against Michiganders of color. Speaker Matt Hall defended him. And not a single House Republican signed onto my resolution.
Why?
The answer is clear: House Republicans agree with Rep Schriver that Michiganders of Asian, African, and Latin American descent are not loyal to our country, and that "ethnicity" is what divides America. If they disagreed with him, they'd say so. But don't just take my word for it. Take it from Rep Schriver, who described his racist views as "widely held by mainstream conservatives."
House Republicans might not agree, but I know that that the people of Michigan abhor racism, and that the good people Representative Schriver insulted deserve an apology. I will always defend my beautifully diverse district. #DenounceHate
