As Majority Vice Chair of the House Agriculture Committee, I can attest to the importance of providing opportunities for youth to be involved in all aspects of agriculture and farming (the 2nd largest industry in this state!). From growing crops, maintaining farms, knowing equipment and how to repair, to finances and insurance.... The list goes on. I'm so glad that Michigan's investment in Future Farmers of America is strong and committed. There are great careers in agriculture. ... See MoreSee Less

Today is the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month 2024. Over the past month I've had the opportunity to represent my heritage in meaningful ways. From visiting the White House and hearing from President Biden to introducing and adopting House Resolution 302, formally recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month in the state of Michigan. This month has been incredible!
However, the recognition and celebration of Hispanic/Latino cultures shouldn't end on October 15th. Join me in uplifting the members of these communities year-round, as their culture and work contribute 24/7 to our diversity and strength as Michiganders.
I am honored to serve as the Latino representative in Michigan's State House and I look forward to continuing my work for constituents and Hispanics and Latinos across our state. ¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana! NHCSL - National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators

As we celebrate their contributions, let’s commit to protecting their rights and preserving their cultures for future generations. Join me today in remembering and lifting up those whose voices have been silenced for too long. ... See MoreSee Less

This afternoon I attended the annual St. Clair Shores Police Department Open House and meet-and-greet, this year at the beautiful Blossom Heath Park. As usual, lots of information about the tools Police officers use for their work— including K-9s and drones and other technology. This first photo is of Officer Plaza showing a ballistics shield (shown separately in the 2nd photo; and with other equipment worn as seen in the third photo). The shield is used in situations when the police may or are being attacked by gunfire (such as a barricaded gunman, for example). The Officer allowed me to hold it (4th photo). OMG it must weight 35 pounds or so — lots of strength, fast thinking, and coordination necessary in violent situations. Thank you @SCS officers for your work and bravery! #SCSPD ... See MoreSee Less
