Dear Neighbor,
As we wrap up another year, I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Center Line, Hazel Park, Madison Heights, and Warren. December is a time for reflection and connection and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together this year, from strengthening public education and expanding access to mental health care, to investing in public safety and local infrastructure. As we look ahead to the new year, I remain committed to continuing this work and delivering real results for our communities.
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to my office at (517) 373-0839 or [email protected] if you need assistance or have questions.
In service,

Rep. Mike McFall
Michigan State Representative, District 14

Legislative Updates
McFall, Tisdel Introduce MI Secure Retirement Legislation to Help Hard-Working Michiganders Save for Retirement
Rep. Mark Tisdel (R-Rochester Hills) and I introduced House Bills 5335 and 5336 to establish MI Secure Retirement, a statewide retirement savings program designed to help more Michiganders save for their future — especially those working for small businesses that do not offer retirement benefits. The legislation, reintroduced after gaining bipartisan support, reflects updated stakeholder input and renewed urgency to address Michigan’s growing retirement security gap.
This legislation would expand retirement savings options in Michigan by allowing employees to contribute to an individual retirement account (IRA) directly through payroll deduction, even if their employer does not sponsor a retirement plan. As of 2020, nearly 42% of Michigan’s private-sector workers ages 18 to 64 lacked access to a retirement savings plan at work, leaving hundreds of thousands of residents at risk of financial instability as they age.
Too many hard-working Michiganders simply do not have access to the tools necessary to build long-term financial security. By reintroducing this legislation, we are reaffirming our commitment to giving every worker — regardless of where they work or the size of their employer — the chance to retire with dignity. This program supports small businesses, helps workers save automatically, and reduces the long-term burden on state safety net programs — all at no cost to employers.

McFall Celebrates New Education Budget, Delivers Record Investments for Michigan Students and Schools
Following the signing of Michigan’s FY 2025-26 education budget by the governor, we celebrated the bill’s passage, noting the record investments it makes in public education across the state and in House District 14.
This budget represents Michigan’s strongest commitment yet to our students, teachers, and families. Every child deserves a safe classroom, a full meal and the opportunity to thrive — and this budget makes that possible.
The education budget provides a record $10,050 per-pupil foundation allowance, continuing Michigan’s effort to close funding gaps between districts. It also includes funding for:
- Universal school meals for all students, ensuring every child starts the day ready to learn.
- $300 million for literacy and tutoring supports to help students recover from learning loss.
- $321 million in total funding to support student mental health and school safety needs.
- $203 million in educator retention and recruitment bonuses, helping attract and keep great teachers.
- Funding for free pre-K for every 4-year-old by 2027, continuing the expansion of Michigan’s Pre-K for All initiative.
- Free community college for all high-school graduates, beginning with the class of 2025.
In House District 14, schools will see an estimated $16.2 million increase in state funding under the new budget. That includes:
- Center Line Public Schools — $1,211,608 more
- Van Dyke Public Schools — $1,931,914 more
- Fitzgerald Public Schools — $1,306,861 more
- Lamphere Public Schools — $1,455,379 more
- Madison Public Schools — $896,771 more
- Hazel Park City School District — $1,708,345 more
- Warren Consolidated Schools — $7,674,773 more
These dollars will help our local districts retain teachers, provide free meals, expand transportation, and make sure every student — no matter their ZIP code — has access to the resources they need. Investing in education means investing in Michigan’s future.
