Presented Tributes to Diana Bosworth and Jean Morton for their Service in Eaton County

I recently attended the Eaton County Board of Commissioners meeting to present two tributes to Diana Bosworth and Jean Morton recognizing them for their recent retirements. Diana has served over 34 years in public service, including nearly a decade in the Eaton County Controller’s Office and for the last 13 years as County Clerk. Jean Morton served for 35 years as Eaton Township Clerk, Deputy Township Clerk and as an Eaton County Canvasser. Thank you to both Diana and Jean for your service to Eaton County!

Presented Eagle Scout Tribute to Lucas Palmiter

I recently presented a tribute to Lucas Palmiter for achieving his Eagle Scout rank. From the moment Lucas first joined Pack 121 at St. Gerard, he has taken full advantage of many opportunities, including holding positions with his troop and completing his duck pond project at Mitten Misfits Farm Sanctuary. Congratulations Lucas on all of your hard work!

Attended Academic Awards Night at Olivet High School

I was recently invited to attend the Academic Awards Night at Olivet High School where I was recognized by graduating senior, Evan Schaefer, as his most influential educator. Evan has worked with my office to form and lead our House District 76 Youth Advisory Council over the last year. I am proud of his work and leadership for our community, and it was an honor to attend.

Capitol Tours with Charlotte Upper Elementary Students

It was great to welcome a few classes of 4th grade teachers and students from Charlotte Upper Elementary to the Michigan State Capitol recently. I hope you enjoyed the beauty and history of our state’s Capitol building!

Hosted Isaiah Waldron for a Job Shadow Day at the Capitol

A few weeks ago, Isaiah Waldron from Waverly High School joined me and my office to shadow our jobs at the Michigan State Capitol. Isaiah attended my committee meetings and other stakeholder meetings with my staff, and had the opportunity to sit on the floor of the Michigan House of Representatives during session. Thank you for joining us, Isaiah!

Presented Tribute at the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow 2026 Founders’ Celebration

Last week, I attended the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow 2026 Founders’ Celebration. The tribute I presented recognized Larry Rawsthorne, M.D., as he is the posthumous recipient of the 30th Founders’ Award for his efforts in pulmonology, as a critical care specialist and as a hospital leader.

Recognized our Member Services Advisor, Maggie, with her Five-Year Anniversary Tribute

A few weeks ago, I joined my colleagues after House session to present a tribute recognizing our Member Services Advisor, Maggie Wernet, on her five year anniversary with the Michigan House of Representatives.

Maggie has been instrumental to all of our offices with event planning and other constituent outreach over the years. Many in Eaton County know Maggie from our Healthy Aging Fair we host at the Lansing Mall every year. Maggie has helped grow that event and is a great asset to not just my office, but to offices serving communities all across the state.

Congratulations again, Maggie, and thank you for everything you do for us!

Brought Granddaughters to Take Your Kid to Work Day at the Capitol

Last week, my sweet granddaughters came to the Michigan State Capitol for Take Your Child to Work Day. Special thank you to House Democratic Leader Ranjeev Puri and his team for making their day educational and fun. They met a lot of great people, including state Sen. Sarah Anthony and the members of the Regulatory Reform Committee.

Presented Teacher of the Month Award to Olivia Stawasz (Charlotte High School)

Last week, I visited Charlotte High School to present Olivia Stawasz with her March Teacher of the Month award. She was recognized by one of her students for the positive impact she has made on the students and the school community in only her second year of teaching. Congratulations again, Olivia! Thank you for your hard work.

Received Honorary Chapter Degree from Olivet Future Farmers of America (FFA)

I visited Olivet FFA over the weekend. I love this organization — their continued collaboration and work has been integral to my continued support from the state-level of Michigan’s large agriculture industry. On Sunday, they awarded me an honorary chapter degree. I appreciate the kindness from FFA members around our community.

Legislative Update

Announcement: New EGLE Grant Provides Relief for Bank Intercounty Drain Project Costs

I recently helped secure a $2.5 million grant through the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy to further ease the cost on homeowners impacted by the Bank Intercounty Drain Project.

Last term as the House Appropriations Chair, I worked with state Sen. Sarah Anthony to bring home $5 million to help offset these costs.

In last year’s budget, I also requested $10 million to decrease remaining costs, and I am continuing to push for that relief in this year’s budget, along with negotiating with federal counterparts to secure additional federal aid.

My Bipartisan Bill Package to Modernize Michigan’s Drain Code

I have tried to help with this local issue from every angle, including updating our outdated drain code. We need more transparency with our drain commission. I have been working with many of my colleagues on legislation for almost a year to address transparency around petitions to the drain commission. I will continue working with both sides of the aisle in the House and the Senate on this important issue.

You can learn more about this bill package on my Facebook page or read the full press release on my website.
