This #LaborDay, we celebrate Michigan's hardworking families, the backbone of our great state, and honor their countless contributions.
But the House Republican budget poses real threats to Michigan families. It is anti-worker, anti-family, and anti-retiree:
✘ Eliminates thousands of jobs in Michigan
✘ Eliminates funding for workforce development
✘ Reduces Employment Services by $59M
✘ Cuts $3M from job creation initiatives
✘ Cuts jobs for police, hospital staffing, healthcare workers, emergency management workers, and government positions
We will keep fighting for every worker, expanding rights, restoring freedoms, empowering them at the bargaining table, and putting them first with good jobs, family-sustaining wages, and the opportunity to thrive.

The Republicans missed their deadline, asked the people of Michigan for an extension, and still turned in a work product that looks like they stayed up all night to cram it in. This bill is filled with typos, but unfortunately, that’s not the worst thing about it.

2.3M Michiganders rely on Social Security. Working people fought and won this earned benefit and the right to retire with dignity. This week marks its 90th anniversary, and that right is under threat from Trump & DC Republicans. Cuts to staff and services are causing long delays and confusion, making it harder for people to access the benefits they’ve earned. We cannot let service erosion break the promise millions depend on.

Thrilled to welcome Senator Elissa Slotkin to Benton Harbor this week as part of her tour. Benton Harbor being just her second stop shows how high a priority our community is, something we don’t always see from our state and federal elected officials.
We met with local leaders from across the lakeshore to discuss issues that matter most, including federal funding, healthcare, and the economy. Grateful for her time, leadership, and focus on the challenges our community faces.

It was an honor to kick off last night’s town hall in Benton Harbor, where I welcomed Senator Elissa Slotkin as she shared her Economic War Plan and listened to what constituents here are going through.
The room was full, and you could feel the energy. People are frustrated with what they’re seeing in Washington and how it’s affecting us here at home. Small towns in Southwest Michigan are really getting squeezed.
Michigan is staring down a billion dollar Medicaid deficit, with no state budget in place. House Republicans are refusing to write one, and that puts us at risk of a government shutdown.
At the same time, we’re looking at deep cuts to healthcare, nonprofits, essential services, and free school meals. These cuts would cause serious and lasting harm to our seniors, children, people with disabilities, and working families.
We’re also at risk of undoing decades of progress on renewable energy, expanding our energy infrastructure, and strengthening our manufacturing base.
I keep hearing the same question from people: What can we do?

Southwest Michigan is becoming the epicenter of America’s nuclear renaissance with the NRC’s recent approval of Palisades’ operating license. This marks the first time in U.S. history a previously shutdown nuclear facility has been approved for restart.
I’m proud to have helped secure $300 million in state funding to support local jobs and boost our economy. The reopening of Palisades will create or retain over 600 family-sustaining jobs, with more than 1,000 additional jobs during maintenance periods.
By providing clean, reliable power to over 800,000 homes, Palisades positions Michigan as a national leader in the clean energy transition and helps us meet our clean energy goals.
