This evening I cast my NO vote on the House Republican FY27 budget.
Their proposal would cut prenatal and infant care, slash funding that protects our drinking water, lakes and rivers. It shortchanges our schools, tying their hands, and defunds our higher education institutions.
This isn’t fiscal responsibility. It is reckless and impulsive behavior by House Republicans. Families in our district deserve a budget that lowers costs, protects healthcare, and keeps our schools and communities strong.
I will continue to fight for a budget that actually puts you first —lower costs, healthcare, and strong schools.

Michigan House Republicans don’t give a damn about those dams. They just voted to defund Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy by 50%!!! That’s $500 Million, a lot of it is revenue from legally required licenses and permits —restricted funding that’s legally mandated to ensure EGLE does their job of regulating, inspecting, and overseeing those damn DAMS that are breaking —in their own backyards!

And there you have it folks! Helping pregnant women and their infants is not a priority for Michigan House Republicans.
Instead, they double down by defunding critical programs like RX Kids, which provides DIRECT assistance to pregnant women and their newborns, and has been proven to increase birthing rates.

The Michigan House Republican’s FY27 budget proposal is out —and it’s not pretty!
While families in our district are struggling with rising costs, this proposal does nothing to bring relief.
No help with groceries.
No relief on utilities or insurance.
No money back in your pocket.
This is not a budget for Michigan families.
Watch and share —our neighbors need to know what’s coming.

This morning, Michigan House Republicans voted out of committee their budget proposal for the FY27 state budget and school aid fund budget. There are still hundreds of pages I still have to review, but we are expected to vote on these budget bills today.
Here is a overview of some of the proposed cuts to different departments.
Some of the most significant are cuts to EGLE, MSU, U of M, Dept of Corrections, although there are many more proposed cuts, including the removal of $20 M away from the prenatal infant support program (RX Kids).
These cuts do not help Michigan families make ends meet, it does not benefit the taxpayers, it does not put money back into your pockets.

What’s better than one Mai?! TWO Mai’s!
Today I had the most adorable student from my district visit the state capitol and dressed up as a mini version of me. She wore a pink suit, shared “Mai” story and did such a great job! Inspiring our next generation to become future leaders is what this work is about.
Thank you to the schools, staff, teachers, parents and administrators who worked hard to make today an inspiring day for all of us.

It’s budget season! But another huge round of cuts may be coming down from the Trump administration based on a budget proposal that was released earlier this month. These cuts are on top of more cuts that Michigan House Republicans and the Speaker have been threatening to do to our own state’s FY27 budget.
Unfortunately, these cuts hurt families, pregnant women and children the most and they do not make life affordable for you.

Today I introduced an Amendment on a bill that requires financial disclosures for county elected officials (executive/commissioners). My Amendment would expand upon a GOP bill that limits the disclosure to only counties with a population threshold of 150,000 or more, targeting the three largest counties, Wayne, Oakland, and my home, Macomb County.
Michigan House Republicans have shown that they have no interest in making sure that their own bill includes every elected official to be held to the same standard because they voted “No” on my amendment or “passed” because they didn’t want be on the record voting “no” on this important amendment.
As lawmakers, we must provide financial disclosures on an annual basis, this was as a result of Proposal 1 of 2022 that was passed by Michiganders. I will continue to ensure that every public official —and not just a select few, are held to the same standard.
