Gas still over $4 a gallon? I’m taking the SMART Bus! Thank you smartmovesus and CEO Tiffany Gunter for letting me ride along to learn about the exciting future plans for mass transit in our region. By the way, did you know that kids and students can ride for FREE?!
In this years budget, we just voted to increase Local Bus Operating to $305 million to help transit agencies across Michigan with maintenance and to improve service, its real progress —but there’s still more for us to do to meet the growing needs of public transit.
As a poor college student, I relied on SMART to get from Warren to the CCS Detroit campus and back home. Now as as a legislator, I’m proud to continue supporting public transit for our future generations.
Thank you to the drivers, mechanics, and staff who help Michigan stay on the move. I’ll keep pushing for adequate funding that meets our own state’s requirements and to ensure students, workers, and families can continue to rely on our buses for their daily commute.

Thank you Michigan Fantasy Festival ✨ for having me as a special guest judge for the most magical event.
Loved experiencing the creativity and magic of the Michigan Fantasty Festival! 🧜♀️🧙
From the local artists and small businesses to the imaginative costumes and breathtaking fashion, this is a celebration of creativity, community, and self-expression unlike anything else. It was wonderful to see so many people embracing the spirit of the festival and supporting talented local artists.
We're so lucky to have such a unique and growing event right here in our backyard. Festivals like this don't just bring people together, they also help strengthen our local economy, showcase Michigan's creative talent, and remind us how vibrant our communities truly are.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's festival so special. The festival is still going on today until 5pm.
I can't wait to see how the Michigan Fantasy Festival continues to grow with the support of volunteers and residents.

The 9 bills were never just bill numbers. They represented healthcare, retirement security, and economic dignity for the men and women who literally stand in the line of fire, risking their lives and health to protect us and are the first to show up at our doorsteps.
While there’s discussion about reintroducing the bills and getting them to the governor’s desk, realistically we know that amending the bills and just getting them onto the Floor for a vote is a slim to zero chance, given the Speaker abused his power by unconstitutionally withholding them for as long as he could. This Speaker will continue to withhold progress, even knowing that the very corrections officers who are suffering reside in his members’ districts.
Healthcare costs keep rising while retirement benefits have been cut for decades. Michigan workers deserve better.
I’m proud to stand with our firefighters, corrections officers, teachers, and Michigan workers. I will continue to fight to get my bill, HB 6058, and the eight other bills signed into law. Please see the attached letter from our Local pertaining to the recent vetoing of 9 bills at the state level. Feel free to reach out to any tagged entities below and ask why they decided waste 18mo of time, tax money and effort to ultimately hurt working-class families in Michigan.

We have 5 more months of Speaker Matt Hall being Speaker, and a new governor will be elected. We know that amending the bills and getting them onto the floor is a slim to zero chance, given the Speaker abused his power by unconstitutionally withholding them for as long as he could. While there is discussion to reintroduce legislation, this Speaker will continue to withhold progress, even knowing that the very corrections officers who are suffering reside in his members’ districts.
I remain committed to the people of Michigan, and stand in solidarity with the workers, the firefighters, corrections officers, and teachers, that I will continue to do everything in my power to get HB 6058 and the 8 other bills signed into law.
Healthcare costs continue to rise, retirement benefits have been drastically cut for decades and taken away from hardworking families. Michigan deserve better than what was taken from them by the very own government that is suppose to work for them. We all have a shared responsibility to make our state better. I’ll never stop showing up or talking about this economic injustice against the people who put us in these positions, protect us, care for our children, and show up for us everyday.

We cannot overlook the fact that Matt Hall and Michigan House Republicans openly violated the Michigan Constitution for over 18 months.
The Constitution won today, but today also showed that who you chose to work for you in government matters just as much.
Of the 9 bills that were vetoed today, five of them had no implementation dates tied to them at all.
House Bill 4901 protects modest homes from bankruptcy loss and would have applied when it was signed. There was no expired window, no timing issue.
House Bill 4900 would have updated Michigan’s debt collection rules —how much of a person’s wages, home, car, and other property creditors can take when collecting on a debt. It would have raised the exemption amounts (protecting more of what people own from garnishment) and adds notice requirements so people know their rights when a creditor comes after their money or belongings. It also stops debt collectors from seizing public assistance, Earned Income Tax Credit refunds, and disability which are meant to help low-income working families. One provision in this bill set the date for October 31, 2026, which is months away…
And House Bills 4177, 5817, and 5818 simply would have allowed counties to establish history museum authorities.
There were no date implementations or impact associated with allowing the counties to put a question on the ballot for voters to decide at a future time.

I was looking forward to celebrating with all of you the Michigan Supreme Court ruling this morning regarding the 9 bills. The court did not take up Speaker Hall’s petition and the decision was remanded back to the lower court, which ordered him to present the bills, including my bill HB 6058.
The bills were finally presented today, but unfortunately I was informed just a short while ago that the governor has vetoed the 9 bills.
I am completely crushed because we worked so hard this past year and a half to get them to her desk. Michigan workers, including corrections officers and teachers deserve better. Now they will have to wait for the legislature to act, to reintroduce these bills, and to get them to a new governor’s desk.
It cost the Michigan taxpayers over $300,000 in legal fees alone in the House; on top of the financial pain that workers have felt and will continue to feel coming out of their own pockets.
Despite this set back, I will continue to fight for and champion the causes that are important to you, and I ask that you look to your other leaders and demand the same.

The Michigan Supreme Court declined to take up Speaker Matt Hall’s petition challenging the lower court’s order and leaving that ruling in place!
The ruling requires him to present the 9 bills, including my bill, HB 6058, that he has unconstitutionally withheld for over a year and a half now.
These bills were passed by both chambers with a majority in December 2024. They must go to the governor’s desk now.
Matt Hall has run out of excuses. His costly ‘thorough legal review’ has cost Michigan taxpayers enough. I expect him to instruct the House Clerk to present these 9 bills immediately.
