Great news! 🎉 House Bill 5826, which I proudly sponsored, has just been reported out of the Senate Housing and Human Services Committee! This bipartisan bill will help expand access to maternal care in Michigan by providing scholarships for aspiring doulas, ensuring every mother has the support she needs during childbirth.

As a mother and policymaker, I understand firsthand the complexities and challenges of labor and delivery. My own experiences make me even more committed to ensuring that every mother has access to the care and support she deserves. Today, I was proud to have the opportunity to testify virtually during committee in support of my bill. I appreciate my colleagues for supporting it!

HB 5826 is an investment in the health and future of Michigan families, providing parents with the resources they need to grow a family, and creating a healthier, more equitable Michigan for generations to come.

Thanks!!

Today was a proud moment as we stood alongside Governor Gretchen Whitmer for the signing of three crucial pieces of legislation that will have a lasting impact on our children's futures.

As a mom with four children in our public schools, I understand firsthand how critical it is to ensure that our schools have the resources they need to provide every student a quality education.

With the signing of the school aid supplemental, HB 5503, schools are receiving a total of $150 million to invest in the safety and mental health of Michigan’s kids. An additional $1 million is specifically allocated for gun violence prevention.

Having the honor of serving on the Education Policy Committee, I’ve heard incredible firsthand testimony from parents and students with dyslexia and I’m proud to have voted on these bipartisan pieces of legislation.

Today’s signing of SB 567 and SB 568 will provide schools with the tools and resources to support students who experience difficulties with achieving literacy, including dyslexia.

Every student learns differently, and our children deserve accommodations that address their learning needs. I am excited that these laws will give every kid a pathway to literacy, setting them up for a bright future.

Yesterday I proudly introduced two bills: HB 6018 and HB 6019, furthering my commitment to serving Michigan families.

Instead of tax cuts for billionaires and corporations, my bill, HB 6018, would enable Pell Grant eligible students attending classes at institutions of higher education, including universities, community colleges, and vocational schools, an opportunity to receive an income tax credit equal to the amount of sales and use taxes they pay for the textbooks they are required to use in their classes.

This legislation will further our young adults and lifelong learners path to building successful careers, while contributing to Michigan’s economic growth.

My second bill, HB 6019, “Safe Kids, Safe Sports” would provide youth sports organizations and programs a pathway to becoming certified in athletic safety. The certification process, although not mandatory to operate a youth sports league, would consist of conducting criminal background checks for coaches, concussion detection training, and CPR training.

Getting certified allows organizations that complete the training to be recognized for their commitment to the safety of the participants, while giving parents peace of mind when choosing a league for their children to participate in.

I’m excited to continue delivering for Michigan families and hopeful that these important pieces of legislation will be considered as we head back into session this fall.

🚌🚉 I recently took the Gratiot bus from Warren to downtown Detroit with transit advocate, Megan. I heard from riders who shared their stories of where they're headed and their biggest concerns about mobility.

Public transportation is a lifeline for countless Michiganders, connecting us to work, school, and essential places like grocery stores and medical clinics. I'm proud to have voted to pass a budget that invests $226.7 million in local bus operations to make services more reliable. In addition, $75 million in local revenue sharing ensures that local communities will have the resources to meet their unique transportation needs.

From updating existing infrastructure to innovative solutions, I'm committed working together with anyone to building a stronger, more efficient transportation system for all!

Today commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787, a document that laid the foundation for our country's democracy and guarantees the rights and freedoms we all cherish. The Constitution has stood the test of time, evolving and growing with our nation to ensure liberty and justice for every American.

I was honored to be a guest speaker at my alma mater, @College for Creative Studies for Constitution Day where I shared my immigration story and path to U.S. citizenship. It was truly a pleasure meeting and hearing from the students and faculty.

As we reflect on this historic day, let’s remember the importance of staying engaged in our democracy. Whether it's voting, speaking out for justice, or supporting leaders who fight for clean air, clean water, and the rights of all people — we all play a role in shaping the future of our country.

Happy Constitution Day! May we continue to uphold the values of democracy and equality that make our nation strong. 💪🏽

🍎🥧 It's Apple Pie Week! I had the pleasure of joining the seniors at the local senior center in St. Clair Shores where I helped peel and cored apples for an upcoming bake sale, which helps to raise funds for their senior meal program.

As the leaves turn golden and the air gets crisp, there's nothing better than enjoying a slice of warm apple pie made with Michigan’s finest apples. Whether you're visiting a local orchard or baking at home, fall is the perfect time to savor these delicious seasonal flavors. 🍂

I love you

If you represent northeast Detroit and Warren why are you always in St. Clair shores? It's ridiculously hard to find information about who is in control of what. Just like your sisters ponzi scheme. You know, when they took one of your houses to pay back your victims.

My colleagues and I passed a balanced budget that delivers extra funding to Double Up Food Bucks, making groceries more affordable for Michigan families struggling to get food on the table. If you shop for groceries with a SNAP/Michigan Bridge Card, this essential food security program allows you to double your benefits when you purchase fresh, Michigan-grown fruits and veggies.
