Thank you Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist for always standing tall for the people of Michigan.Last week, I presided over the Senate as it passed the Michigan Voting Rights Act.

At a time when voting rights are being challenged across the country, Michigan is choosing to protect them. Every Michigander deserves the confidence that their vote will be cast, counted, and heard.

Now, let’s keep the momentum going and get this vital legislation to the governor’s desk.

Thank you Lieutenant

This Michigan GOP Bill to require candidates running for office to disclose dual citizenship on an affidavit of identity is nothing more than an anti-immigrant policy dressed up as transparency.

People deserve leaders who are focused on the issues that matter: lowering the cost of healthcare, childcare, housing, and getting a school aid and state budget done on time.

Instead, Michigan House Republicans are holding hearings on unserious legislation that further sows division and fear-mongers, and scapegoat immigrant communities under the guise of “transparency”.

You want to talk about transparency?

Speaker Matt Hall should pass FOIA legislation.

You want candidates running for office to check off a box on their affidavit of identity?

Add a box requiring them to disclose to the public if they’ve ever been convicted of a crime.

Add a box to require that they actually live at the address they’re putting down on paper.

Multiple media reports have been made about candidates and sitting legislators who’ve committed crimes or are fake-living out of a barn or and apartment they don’t actually dwell in.

We have 5 session days left until July 1. Let’s make it count and get a budget done before the legally required deadline. Our schools and families are depending on it.

Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, the day when news of freedom finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom, justice, and opportunity are ideals we must continue working toward for everyone.

On this day, and everyday, let’s continue to honor the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black Americans, reflect on our history, and recommit ourselves to building communities where every person has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you to my colleague Rep. Brenda Carter for allowing me to walk alongside you in solidarity at the Juneteenth Parade last year in Pontiac. Wishing everyone a safe, meaningful, and reflective Juneteenth as you celebrate today and throughout the weekend!

Here we go again… is Speaker Matt Hall orchestrating a potential State of Michigan government shutdown again??

We have a statutory deadline of July 1 to pass a School Aid Budget and General Fund Budget.

But with only 5 session days left, so far —no budget bills have been added to our agenda for a vote.

Thousands of State of Michigan employees including our own office staff are in danger of being furloughed.

If we don’t get the budget done before October 1, schools would also be forced to open without the critical funding they need for teachers, transportation, or food.

Let’s get a budget done —Michigan families are depending on it!

Good luck to Miss St. Clair Shores, Janelle Reiff, and Miss St. Clair Shores Teen, Amelia Thiel, as they compete in the 2026 Miss Michigan Scholarship Competition at the historic Frauenthal Theater in Muskegon!

Tomorrow, June 18-20, thirty young women from across Michigan will compete for the title of Miss Michigan 2026, with the winner earning a $10,000 scholarship and advancing to the Miss America competition. Nineteen young women will compete in the 2026 Miss Michigan Outstanding Teen.

I am so proud to see these talented young women representing St. Clair Shores and Macomb County on the state stage.

Wishing Janelle and Amelia the very best of luck as they pursue their dreams and showcase their dedication, leadership, and service!

A special thank you to the families, volunteers, mentors, sponsors, and community members whose encouragement and support help make these opportunities possible. It truly takes a village to help these young women grow, lead, and achieve their dreams

Here we go again! It’s budget season. But the dozens of bills on the agenda this week in the Michigan House —are not budget bills. And we didn’t vote at all today, because many of their members were absent from work. 7 days. The clock is ticking. Is Matt Hall going to shut down the state of Michigan again?

Congratulations to Macomb Community College on the completion of the Fire Apparatus Building! 🚒

A special thank you to my colleague, Representative Denise Mentzer, for securing state funding to help make this project possible.

I was honored to join Macomb county officials and our Fire Chiefs, Keith Jacobs from the Roseville Fire Department ,and Orrin Ferguson from the Warren Fire Department for this historic occasion.

Preparing the next generation of firefighters and first responders starts with making sure they have the tools, resources, and space they need to train, learn, and be ready to serve our communities when we need them most.

This investment strengthens public safety, supports workforce development, and helps ensure our first responders are equipped for the challenges of today and tomorrow.

I'm proud to support investments that prepare our future first responders and keep our communities safe.

Thank you to the City of Roseville, the Roseville Police Department, Roseville Fire Department, and all of the volunteers who worked so hard behind the scenes to make this year's RoseFest a success.

Events like this don't happen without the dedication of so many people giving their time and energy.

It was wonderful to see so many residents, catch up with friends, meet new neighbors, and hear about what's important to our community.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate. I'm grateful to serve such an amazing community and looking forward to seeing the fireworks! 🌹🎆
