A Ride-Along with Michigan State Police Trooper: A Lesson in Sacrifice and Service Safety first. That was the first thing on my mind as I put on a bulletproof vest before stepping out the door for a three-hour ride-along with Michigan State Police Trooper Mills. That moment hit me hard —this is what every law enforcement officer does daily, stepping into uncertainty to protect and serve our communities. During our time on the road, I saw firsthand the challenges they face: 🔹 Understaffed and overworked —working 12-hour shifts while also managing their own cases and administrative duties. 🔹 Limited resources —stretching every dollar to cover what they need to do their job effectively. 🔹 Unpredictable dangers —from high-speed chases to tense encounters, every call carries risks most of us never have to think about. Our troopers, like all public workers, deserve more than just gratitude —they deserve real support. As we continue conversations on the state budget, I am committed to ensuring our public workers have: ✅ Competitive wages that reflect the risks they take. ✅ Access to quality, affordable healthcare for themselves and their families. ✅ The resources needed to do their jobs safely and effectively. Today, I had the honor of welcoming a group of third graders from Roseville Community Schools in the 13th House District to our State Capitol. They traveled to Lansing for a field trip and had the opportunity to tour the Capitol, learning firsthand about the work we do every day. Seeing their curiosity and excitement reminded me why we fight so hard to build a better future for the next generation. But today also served as a stark reminder of the challenges we face. While these young students were here to learn about democracy in action, House Republicans passed a resolution praising to their leader and supporting the dismantling of the Department of Education. Week after week, instead of working toward solutions, they continue to create chaos and sow division.  We can’t lose sight of the bigger picture. Our job is to serve the people —not to push empty resolutions week after week that only spread fear, division, chaos, and confusion. We need to focus on passing meaningful legislation that makes a real difference in people’s lives. I remain committed to that goal, and I’m grateful to still be standing, so that I can continue to fight for my constituents.Image attachment

This morning, thousands of educators, parents, students, and community leaders participated in a national “walk-in” to send a clear message to our government: protect our students and families. As a mother of four young children in Michigans public schools, I know firsthand that an attack on our education system is an attack on our families—and we will not stand for it. Yet just two weeks ago, Michigan House Republicans voted to gut $5 billion from our School Aid Fund, while the current presidential administration actively works to dismantle the Department of Education. Michigan relies on $550 million in federal funding to support critical school programs, and if that funding is slashed, our state’s education budget could take a devastating 10% hit. We should be working to strengthen our schools, not stripping them of the resources that shape the future of our children. At a time when schools are already facing record cuts, we must do everything in our power to ensure fair salaries for teachers, free breakfast and lunch for every child, transportation, full funding for at-risk students, and access to continuing education in career and technical education, and post-secondary opportunities. I was proud to stand in solidarity today with my childrens dedicated teachers, support staff, and administrators. Our children’s future depends on us standing up and fighting for them. Bipartisan Support for Macomb Community College: Keeping Our Region Competitive I’m proud to see support for the 13th House District’s Macomb Community College and the work being done to keep our region competitive when it comes to hosting events. House Bill 4065 is a commonsense move that allows Macomb to get a liquor license for its Expo Center and Student Community Center, making it easier to host conferences, trade shows, and other major events. Before this bill, the college had to go through a time-consuming process of getting daily permits just to serve alcohol at events. Now, with this change, Macomb can attract more business, bring in more visitors, and support our local economy—all while keeping things fair by purchasing the license at market value. This is a great example of my colleagues from both sides of the aisle coming together to do the right thing. Supporting our community college means supporting students, businesses, and workers in our region. This move helps ensure Macomb remains a top destination for major events, and I’m glad to see us taking action to make that happen.Image attachment
