Morgan Uplifts Attorney General Nessel’s Lawsuit Against Fossil Fuel Cartel

Democratic lawmaker celebrates move to address energy affordability crisis

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Jan. 23, 2026 — Today, Attorney General Dana Nessel filed an antitrust lawsuit alleging that major oil companies have driven up energy costs for Michiganders by conspiring for decades to suppress competition. In response, state Rep. Jason Morgan (D-Ann Arbor), chair of the Transit Caucus, issued the following statement:

“For decades, these corporations have rigged the system to eliminate competition and keep prices high simply because they could. Massive oil companies are raking in record profits while our neighbors struggle to heat their homes and power their cars. I’m proud to stand with Attorney General Nessel as she takes this fight directly to the big oil monopolies that have been making life more expensive for Michigan families. It’s time to put people before corporate greed and hold these companies accountable.”
