We have received this notice from Oakland County Health Division:
As part of the 2025 Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) Beach Monitoring Program, the following beach is closed:
Banker’s Sub beach on Upper Straits Lake in Orchard Lake due to a sanitary sewer overflow in close proximity to the beach.
OCHD will post a sign today. Samples were collected today, with results available tomorrow.

Last month, I followed up on my op-ed in the Detroit Free Press on what Michigan must do to fight political violence by sending a bipartisan letter from 20 lawmakers requesting Governor Whitmer establish a Michigan Commission on Targeted Violence. An executive order signed by the governor is the quickest way to stand up such an entity, but I will also introduce legislation in the State House to codify a commission focused on preventing targeted violence, including political violence, hate crimes, and mass shootings. ...
