🍎 As your representative, I am fighting to keep funding for universal school meals and mental health and school safety. Our schools in Greater West Bloomfield and across Michigan deserve better from the State Legislature than chronic uncertainty over state funding. It’s long past time to pass a strong K-12 education budget.

COMMERCE RD., UNION LAKE RD. TO GREEN LAKE RD. IN WEST BLOOMFIELD TWP., TO CLOSE SEPT. 2 THROUGH LATE SEPTEMBER FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENT
The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), in partnership with West Bloomfield Township, will close Commerce Road, from Union Lake Road to Green Lake Road, from Tuesday, Sept. 2, through late September, to remove and replace a 98-year-old culvert between Green and Bloomfield lakes.
During the closure, residential and business access will be maintained east and west of the full road closure between Cedarbank and Warner drives.
The through-traffic detour is Commerce Road to Union Lake Road to Willow Road to Hiller Road, back to Commerce Road and vice versa.
RCOC has received necessary environmental permits from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) and the West Bloomfield Township Environmental Commission.
The project will not change existing water levels (either during or after construction), and the existing stream-bottom water-level control feature will be retained at the upstream culvert end.
The approximately $350,000 project will be paid for by RCOC and includes:
• Replacing the current 43-foot-long culvert with a 12-foot span and 8-foot height, with a 76-foot-long elliptical concrete pipe with a 6.3-foot span and a height of 4 feet.
• Burying the bottom of the new culvert eight inches to ultimately allow a natural stream bed throughout the culvert.
• Placing of stone (rip rap) around the culvert ends to prevent erosion.
• Paving with asphalt in the vicinity of the new culvert.
• Placing new guardrail and pavement markings.
Springline Excavating of Farmington Hills is the contractor for the project. This section of Commerce Road carries approximately 10,400 vehicles daily.

Today’s antics in the State House were utterly ridiculous. House Republicans continue to refuse to put forward a state budget, leaving schools, cities, law enforcement, and public health high and dry and hurtling Michigan towards a government shutdown, all while claiming “waste, fraud, and abuse.” But the biggest waste, fraud, and abuse is the people of Michigan having to pay Speaker Matt Hall’s salary while he and he alone hurtles the state towards a government shutdown at warp-speed and defunds meals for our kids at school. Is there currently a bigger waste of money, a more fraudulent leadership, or abuse of power in Lansing than this House Speaker?

It was an honor and special personal privilege to present a tribute from the State of Michigan to Rabbi Marla Hornsten to celebrate her 25 years at Temple Israel, in West Bloomfield! I was 5 when Rabbi Marla joined our congregation, and can hardly imagine our community without her important voice for justice and unity. Mazel tov and yasher ko’ach, Rabbi!

I will continue to fight to ensure our free, universal school meals program is funded. The time is now for Speaker Hall and House Republicans to introduce their budgets and come to the negotiating table with Senate Democrats and Governor Whitmer. Barreling the state toward a government shutdown is egregious, irresponsible, and wrong. Time to man up, and govern.🍎 School Meals Update 🍎
Free breakfast and lunch for all students will continue through September 30, 2025. Funding beyond that date has not yet been finalized. If state funding ends, families who don’t qualify for free/reduced-price meals may need to pay starting October 1, 2025.

Today I introduced my resolution to reaffirm support for the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which establishes a two-term limit for election to the Office of President of the United States. Nothing could be more vital than abiding by the Constitution and upholding the rule of law.

⚓️🌊 Our Local Lakes, Local Voices Town Hall right here in Sylvan Lake last week enabled me to connect with constituents all about our inland lakes! We were joined by experts from EGLE, DNR, the Michigan Lakes and Streams Association, and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. Advocating for the health and safety of our inland lakes — from Union Lake to Square Lake — will always be a top priority for me as your state representative. I look forward to joining my friend and colleague, State Representative Jennifer Conlin, in making our Local Lakes, Local Voices tour an annual event in both of our house districts. Stay tuned for our announcement of new legislation this fall!

I join with 80% of the Israeli public - left, right, and center - to say NO to occupation of Gaza. It is long past time for this war to end, to strike a ceasefire deal to release all the hostages, to call new Knesset elections, and to rebuild Gaza. Netanyahu’s radical plan will not defeat Hamas, the terrorist organization that wishes to see the world soaked in Jewish blood; it will only make Israel a global pariah state – all to satisfy Netanyahu’s extremist coalition partners and stay out of prison. This plan is opposed by Israel’s top military, security, and intelligence officials. As a proud Zionist and lover of Israel, I believe now is the time to change course, not escalate recklessly.
