Spent the morning searching for stoneflies at Townsend Park with students from Ms. Witkovski’s class at Aberdeen Academy!

Stoneflies are an aquatic insect and an important part of our ecosystem. Their presence show how healthy a waterway is. Last year, former State Representative Rachel Hood worked with these students to introduce a bill to make the stonefly our state insect, a bill I was glad to continue on in the new term.

Special that’s to Grand Rapids Public Schools, Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds - LGROW and Ms. Witkovsky for organizing this great trip!

Back from another great annual pancake breakfast with the Creston Neighborhood Association!

Didn’t get a chance to stop by? No worries, this handy fridge magnet has every neighbor event this year. Don’t forget the Creston Farmers Market is starting up soon too!

Thanks to everyone who came to our coffee hour this morning! We had some great conversations about protecting voting rights, preparing for the looming federal cuts, possible bipartisan housing solutions and so much more.

Hope to see you there next month!

After Pres. Donald Trump's SAVE Act died in the US Senate, Michigan House Republicans tried to enact their own version yesterday. It failed here too.

Here's my floor speech:

Happy Easter to everyone celebrating!

Now, more than ever, take comfort in knowing that renewal comes from personal sacrifice in the pursuit of justice.

Just introduced my first bill! Thrilled to be part of a bipartisan bill package to ensure terms of office for local officials do not start until every last vote is counted and elections are certified.

Currently, township officers are sworn in on November 20th. Cities and villages can set terms of office to begin even sooner. After the passage of proposal 2 in 2022, military and overseas voters now have an additional 6 days beyond election day for their ballots to be received by the clerk and tabulated.

Our four bills ensure that the term of office for city, township and village officials begins no later than December 1st after the November election to give the additional time necessary to receive and tabulate these votes before the election is certified. Cities and Villages can still choose to have a term begin later.

Special thanks to Rep. State Representative Penelope Tsernoglou, Mike Hoadley - State Representative and Pat Outman - State Representative for including me on the package!
