For a second year in a row, House Republicans have refused to take up a resolution honoring June as Pride Month. That is why House Democrats were proud to read aloud the resolution out loud on the steps of the Capitol.
The contributions made to this state by LGBTQ+ Michiganders are too important to not lift up. Happy #Pride🌈 !

I took the scout oath for the first time 25 years ago, and I have been doing my best to live up to it every day since. That’s why it was my pleasure to welcome Scouting America today for their day at the Capitol. ... See MoreSee Less

Taps sign 👇"The rent is too 🤬 high."
The city of Austin, Texas, took these famous words to heart after its rents rose more than any major U.S. city in the 2010s—implementing a wave of reforms that allowed the Texas capital to increase its housing supply by 30%.
Rents fell, particularly in buildings that cater to lower-income tenants, even as the population continued to grow.
This progress makes one thing clear: The best way to reduce housing costs is to make it easier to build more homes. No single solution is best at achieving this. Success came in Austin from combining many tactics, including:
🏘️ Opening more areas to more types of homes.
🏗️ Encouraging the construction of affordable housing.
🚗 Removing parking requirements, which drive up housing costs.
To bring down housing costs, more cities and states can look to what worked in Austin—where residents saw the steepest rent declines of any large U.S. city from 2021 to 2026. pewtrsts.org/4nCYW4B

All in a night’s work…
Last week, House Republicans kept us in session late Wednesday night to ram through a $5.7 billion property tax cut that will mostly help the wealthiest people and corporations in our state. If it passes, it will either decimate our schools or pave the way for paying more sales taxes.
We can do property tax relief, but not at the expense of our schools and not to benefit the rich.

Smart stair reform is out of committee and on to the floor! Both HB 5570 & 5571 passed out of committee last week.
The committee also heard testimony from The Pew Charitable Trusts, whose 2025 study found that modern single-stair building standards outlined in our bills have a strong safety record.
Grateful to keep working with my colleague, Parker Fairbairn - State Representative, on this bipartisan package. Looking forward to advancing this crucial reform closer to reality!

Before brunches and gifts, Mother's Day was meant to recognize the labor and sacrifices made by mothers who hold families and communities together.
Whether it's childcare, emergency pickups, cradling after nightmares, midnight feedings, or constant hours pumping, no one holds my family together more than my amazing wife and these two phenomenal grandmothers.
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers and mothering figures out there.
