10 years ago today, the Supreme Court affirmed in Obergefell v Hodges what should have always been true: love is love, and hate has no place in our laws.
In that spirit, I stood on the Capitol steps with my colleagues in defiance of bigotry to declare June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Michigan — and we’ll keep showing up, loud and unapologetic, until equality is real for everyone.
Happy Pride, everyone.

With a heat wave rolling in, make sure to practice sun safety this weekend. Avoid going outdoors around noon, when the sun will be highest and the heat will be hottest. Be sure to stay hydrated and keep an eye on vulnerable friends and family members.

In its decision to uphold Tennessee’s ban on care for trans youth, the Supreme Court yet again violates basic freedoms in favor of government interference in deeply personal healthcare decisions.
This does not and should not impact Michigan parents’ ability to access the evidence-based medical care that their kids need.
To all trans young people and the families who love them, we will not stop fighting for you.

I am heartsick to hear the news of the assassination of Minnesota Rep Melissa Hortman and her husband.
Violence is poison to democracy and is never an acceptable response to political disagreement.
But let’s be clear—violence flows out of the mouth of President Trump and from the hands of those in his administration. It is not enough for this administration to offer lukewarm condemnation.
We demand an end to the dehumanization of our immigrant neighbors, the politically motivated targeting of LGBTQ+ people, and the weaponization of our laws against elected officials. Immediately.

Pride is more than a celebration—it’s a declaration that we ALL deserve to live openly, authentically, and safely.
Especially now as we find strength in the courage of those who led before us, stand with our LGBTQ friends, and commit to a future where no one has to hide or be afraid.
Happy Pride! 🌈❤️
