Michigan schools are laying off staff and discontinuing the universal free breakfast and lunch for kids because the Legislature hasn’t passed a budget.
The responsibility lies squarely with Speaker Matt Hall.
Educators, administrators, school boards, staff, parents, and students have all been preparing tirelessly for the new school year.
Instead of taking responsibility, Matt Hall is blaming “Lansing politicians.” But let’s be clear: Matt Hall is the Speaker of the House —the highest-ranking member in Lansing.
He is the ultimate Lansing politician.
So the real question is: What is Matt Hall waiting for? Stop the political games. Discharge the budget bills and let the House take a vote now.

Part 2 - Matt Hall’s political stunt was theatre for him to hold future legislators accountable if a budget isn’t completed by July 1. It does nothing to dock his pay today. But if there is a government shutdown on Oct 1 —because he has failed to discharge any state budget bills to the floor for a vote, he won’t get paid, and neither will the thousands of state of Michigan workers. #government #shutdown #michigan #matthall #budget ... Michigan: we don’t have a state budget or a school aid budget because of Matt Hall.

🎆 Summer may be winding down, but I’m holding onto the memories, the lessons, and the gratitude it brought.
From long days of hard work to moments of joy with family, every season reminds me of how much we grow.
I’m so grateful for the people, places, and experiences that filled these months. Whether it was connecting with neighbors, supporting small businesses, or enjoying Michigan’s beautiful outdoors — every moment reminded me of the strength of our community.
Here’s to carrying that energy into fall, ready for new challenges and opportunities ahead. 🌻

I had the honor of joining the Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission for their quarterly meeting and to provide a legislative update.
At a time when immigration policies at the federal level weigh heavily on so many Michigan families, when language access remains a barrier, and when our stories and history are too often left out of classrooms, MAPAAC is making sure we are not forgotten. They are out in our neighborhoods, organizing listening sessions, and bringing the voices of our community members directly to the Governor and executive branch.
Their advocacy is helping to shape legislation, expand opportunities, and ensure that AANHPI communities across Michigan are seen, valued, and represented.
Thank you to the commissioners of MAPAAC for standing strong and making sure our voices are heard — your work is creating a Michigan where all of our stories matter and where future generations will see themselves reflected in the fabric of our state.

Wishing the greatest governor to have ever served, from the Great Lake State, Governor Gretchen Whitmer —A FABULOUS HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂
We’re so lucky to have a leader who works hard, fights for Michigan families, and still manages to bring her signature humor and grit to everything she does. 💪🌟
Here’s to many more days filled with fearless joy, laughter, and maybe even some 🚧 orange-barrel-free ⚠️ relaxation!

Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall has been deliberately withholding budget bills from being voted on, even though we have a statutory July 1 deadline.
With no FY 2026 School Aid Fund Budget or General Fund Budget done, Speaker Hall is orchestrating a state government shutdown on October 1, 2025!
Thousands of State of Michigan employees, public departments, and agencies are in danger of being furloughed, schools are without critical funding for programs including transportation, food, mental health, and so much more. #Michigan #MILeg #reality #government

We still don’t have a school aid budget or a state budget, but House Republicans rushed through House Bill 4707 to ban Ranked Choice Voting. It passed the House with 57 Republican votes today. It will now be transmitted to the Senate chamber, where Democrats have the majority and can choose to take it up or not. #michigan #mileg #rankedchoicevoting #voting #election ... See MoreSee Less
