Today, Governor Whitmer and other housing advocates gathered in our district to sign the Housing Opportunity Tax Credit into law!
Everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home. Today was an important step toward making that reality for more Michigan families.
This is a practical, proven investment that will help the construction of new affordable housing, while also allowing us to rehab and upgrade older affordable housing.
Michigan’s housing shortage remains one of the defining challenges of our time, and communities like Grand Rapids need continued investment and attention. This bill is an important step forward, but our work is far from over.

It was a pleasure having the Urban League of West Michigan Summer Youth Program visit the Capitol!

Democracy works best when people are informed, engaged, and involved.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Election & Transparency Roundtable. We had a great conversation about building trust in our elections, what election transparency looks like, and the many ways each of us can take responsibility as voters.
We talked about being proactive and planning ahead for civic engagement and education in the coming years. How to better inform students about their local government and the impact it has on them, as well as adults.

Wildfire smoke from Canada is impacting air quality across Michigan today, and it's important that we all take a few extra precautions to protect our health.
If you're able, stay indoors, limit strenuous outdoor activity, keep your windows closed, and drink plenty of water. Those with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions should be especially careful.
Please also check in on your neighbors, older adults, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to poor air quality.

Budget priorities for District 82 are personal for me because they are people-focused.
It was such a joy to cut the ribbon on the AYA Jefferson House this week. Seeing the incredible space that young people will have to live, find stability, and build a life was amazing!
We know that the number of youth experiencing homelessness in our community is high. If a young person isn’t given the tools they need to begin life, they start at a disadvantage.
We also know that catching our babies before they hit rock bottom could change everything. Giving them a beautiful, safe space, access to social services, mentors, and mental health support can be a game changer!

Let’s celebrate a very important project coming to Grand Rapids! 🎉
Housing should meet us at every stage of life. Unfortunately, senior housing is hard to find in District 82, so this project is extremely important and I’m proud to have done a small part to help move it forward.
I'm excited to celebrate $1.5 million in MSHDA funding for the 848 Division development led by United Methodist, Samaritas, and the GR Housing Commission.
The project includes:
• Affordable Senior Housing
• Childcare
• Health & Wellness Services
• Jobs & Community Investment
This is the kind of investment our community deserves. One that helps older adults age with dignity, supports working families, creates good-paying jobs, and brings new opportunities to Southeast Grand Rapids. I recently had the opportunity to tour the Children's Healing Center and learn more about the incredible work they do for children and young adults who have very complex medical needs that prohibit them from everyday interaction with the world.
The Center provides a space that is clean and safe for them to have regular experiences that we often take for granted. Things like space where kids can play, learn, celebrate milestones, and build community is so important. Seeing the impact of their work firsthand was inspiring.
