It was great to spend some time with the Michigan Political Leadership Program during their weekend in Grand Rapids!
I was happy to share my story about getting into policy, what my guiding principles are when it comes to this work, and what have been some of the hardest decisions policy wise during my time serving.
It was an engaging and even challenging conversation that I truly appreciate.

Yesterday at the Capitol we held our 9/11 memorial. Each year we are honored to be joined by a local service member, Luis Pimentel of the Grand Rapids Fire Department was my guest this year.
As we marked 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001, we heard stories of servicemen who were at Ground Zero and the sacrifices they made for this country. We also honored first responders from around the state who lost their lives in the line of duty this year.
I’m grateful to Luis for representing District 82 and to all of the Grand Rapids first responders who work every day to keep our neighbors safe.

Good news for Michigan voters! 🚨
The Supreme Court has blocked President Trump's attempt to add USPS restrictions that would have made it harder for valid absentee ballots to be delivered. That means Michigan’s current process remains in place, and eligible voters can continue voting absentee by mail.
Every voter deserves a fair opportunity to make their voice heard, whether they vote early, on Election Day, or from home. To request your absentee ballot, visit michigan.gov/vote

Today, we remember a day when this country was forever changed. September 11, 2001 at 8:46am in New York City and the Pentagon.
Twenty-five years later, we continue to hold the families, communities, and the first responders who were directly impacted on that day. Where we were the moment we learned of this tragedy will forever be burned into our memory. For me, it was 2nd hour World History class with Mrs. Doyle.
As we continue to remember those we lost and honor those who responded with extraordinary courage, may we also carry forward the compassion, unity, and resilience that is required of us all. We will never forget. ❤️🇺🇸 ❤️🇺🇸

Happy Labor Day! Today, we honor the workers who fought for the rights and protections that ALL of us benefit from.
Weekends, 8 hour workdays, workplace safety, fair wages, and more are ours because workers chose to stand together.
I’m proud to stand alongside my union partners as we continue to fight for these things. As we all know, the battle is never over, but we hold the line every day to protect the rights we deserve.

I had the honor of surprising two really special people last week!
For more than 50 years, Duane and Kaye Davis have helped shape the music, education, and cultural life of Grand Rapids.
It was a joy to surprise them with a special tribute celebrating their decades of work as musicians, educators, and mentors. Their impact can be seen in the generations of students and artists they’ve taught and encouraged through the years.
And what a better time to celebrate than Duane’s 80th Birthday! Happy Birthday, Duane, and thank you both for all you’ve given to our Grand Rapids community! Special thanks to GRAAMA and Kristin for allowing me to crash the party! 🎉

We love seeing investments in Grand Rapids! 💙
I had a great time joining the Evolution and Ezugi team to celebrate the opening of their new live dealer studio.
They have already hired 130 people locally from GR and surrounding areas. Their goal is 300 by end of year. That’s real growth!
Congratulations to the entire Evolution and Ezugi team on your new space!

This week, we’re spotlighting The Candied Yam, Ellnora's Kitchen, Maison Lusamba, R3 Station, Designer Diamonds, and Boston Square Ice Cream Parlor!
Supporting Black-owned businesses means supporting our neighbors, local entrepreneurs, and the people who help make our community stronger.
Black businesses traditionally have less access to capital and are investing in parts of town that have been underinvested in by local government. They do the hard work of serving communities that are often overlooked. This is why Black Business Month is so important and why going out of our way to support Black owned businesses matters all year long!

Last week, I had the chance to join friends, colleagues, and community members from across West Michigan to celebrate Senator Gary Peters as his farewell motorcycle tour made it’s way through Grand Rapids.
It was a great afternoon reflecting on his years of service and hearing directly from Michiganders about the work he has done on issues like supporting our veterans and addressing PFAS contamination in our communities.
I am so glad to have been there to wish Senator Peters well as he makes his way across the state and closes out this chapter of service to Michigan. Thanks for stopping by West Michigan, Senator!
