Energy costs are too high and every part of our energy grid and infrastructure systems should be working to lower them.
Last week, I introduced legislation to proactively protect net metering programs for rooftop solar owners in Michigan.
Net metering allows customers who generate their own power to lower their bills while reducing strain on the grid and supporting long-term energy reliability.
While net metering is currently standard practice for Michigan’s major utilities, other states have tried to weaken similar programs after residents made investments in their homes and energy future. My bill ensures Michigan families aren’t penalized for generating their own power and protects residents who have already installed solar panels.
This is about fairness, reliability, and keeping energy costs affordable for Michigan families.

Keeping Energy Costs Lower for Michigan Families:
Energy bills are out of control and families are paying the price.
That’s why I introduced a bill to put residents, not monopoly utilities, back in charge of rate hikes.
It requires real reliability standards before rates go up, prevents increases that push bills beyond what families can afford, and stops back-to-back rate hikes.
For too long, rates have gone up again and again without better service. No more rubber-stamping increases while reliability falls short.
If service isn’t improving, rate hikes shouldn’t keep coming.
No one should have to choose between keeping the lights on and putting food on the table.

Michigan’s power grid, water systems, and data infrastructure are increasingly targeted by cyberattacks, and the consequences aren’t theoretical either. There are outages, service disruptions, and costly recovery efforts that can drive up costs for families.
Last week, I introduced a package of bills to require stronger, up-to-date cybersecurity standards for critical infrastructure like data centers, electric and gas utilities, and water systems.
Cybersecurity shouldn’t depend on the source of power. It should be on protecting the systems and the people who rely on it.
While some federal standards exist, they don’t cover everything, and they don’t replace the need for clear, consistent protections at the state level. This sets proactive expectations and avoids a patchwork response after something goes wrong.
As these threats keep evolving, Michigan needs to be ahead of them, and not reacting after the fact.
Protecting these systems isn’t optional, it’s essential. We either act now, or pay the consequences later.
