I have been made aware of yet another incident at the Huron Valley Women's Correctional Facility.
Another death in state custody demands answers and it cannot be dismissed as routine.
When multiple serious incidents occur in a short period of time, it raises important questions that deserve clear and transparent responses.
Transparency and accountability matter, especially when lives are at stake.
I will continue pushing for answers and transparency as more information becomes available.

This afternoon, I had the honor of presenting a tribute to Milan Dairy Barn as they celebrate their 70th anniversary! It's rare for a small business to thrive for seven decades, but Milan Dairy Barn has done just that. More than an ice cream stand, it has become a cherished part of Milan's identity and a place where generations of families have made memories together. Thank you to owner Thomas Kujawa and the entire Dairy Barn team for your commitment to the community and for all you've contributed to Milan over the years. Congratulations on this incredible milestone! ... See MoreSee Less

This week I had the pleasure of presenting a tribute to the library media center at Owen Intermediate School in Van Buren Twp. This tribute recognizes them for achieving exemplary status as a Michigan School Library for 21st Century Schools under the School Library 21 program. The library media center at Owen serves as not only a place to check out books, but to learn valuable life skills. We’re so fortunate to have schools, teachers, and students like we find at Owen in our community. Congratulations to Mr. Jonathan Richards for his outstanding work! ... See MoreSee Less

Just over one year ago, Rep. Bierlein and I teamed up to pass a bill that created a new fundraising license plate for the 4-H foundation of Michigan. This plate gives drivers across our state a way to proudly support Michigan 4-H and the next generation of leaders. For generations, 4-H has helped young people build confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of community through agriculture, service, and hands-on learning experiences. Thank you to everyone who continues to support Michigan 4-H and invest in our youth.

Today, a permanent injunction was granted blocking radioactive Waste from coming into our community confirming what we already know. We are NOT a dumping Ground. This is what happens when residents speak up and refuse to accept less. Also want to acknowledge Abdul El-Sayed for testifying during the bench trial and standing with our communities in this fight. Today’s ruling is a huge victory for public health and the people who refused to give up. ... See MoreSee Less

A Second in-custody death at Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility has now been publicly reported within days of the first.
Given the timing of these incidents and prior concerns raised through oversight channels regarding facility conditions, medical responsiveness, and operations at the prison, I have formally requested preservation of records and clarification regarding investigative and mortality review procedures.
At this stage, it is critical that all relevant facts, timelines, and records are preserved and that appropriate review processes are allowed to proceed thoroughly and transparently.
As Minority Vice Chair of the House Oversight Committee, my office will continue monitoring this situation closely.

Today I joined my colleagues at a press conference to call for greater transparency and accountability regarding allegations involving Jeffrey Epstein and his historic ties to the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Recent reporting has raised deeply troubling questions about how Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell allegedly gained access to young people through the institution. Survivors deserve to have those concerns taken seriously and fully examined.
No institution is above scrutiny when serious allegations involving the safety and well-being of children are involved.
Transparency, accountability, and support for survivors should never be partisan issues.
