Yesterday in Lansing was our annual ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. First responders from all over Michigan joined us to honor the lives lost in the line of duty.

MDARD recently announced a new population of spotted lanternfly was recently confirmed in Washtenaw County, which borders counties with previously confirmed populations. As of September 2026, spotted lanternfly populations have been confirmed in Berrien, Jackson, Lenawee, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.
The spotted lanternfly is an invasive insect that feeds on a wide range of plants and can move long distances by hitchhiking or laying egg masses on vehicles, outdoor equipment and firewood. This pest can have negative effects on specialty crops and be a nuisance in outdoor areas.

Residents who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits may qualify for additional assistance to replace food that spoiled as a result of recent storms and power outages.
Residents have until Wednesday, September 23 to gather documentation and complete the necessary steps to secure their replacement benefits. The amount that a household can request for SNAP food benefit replacements is based on the total value of the food lost, up to a maximum of one month’s regular food assistance benefits.
SNAP recipients who had food spoil due to a verified power outage or lost to storm damage can call 844-464-3447 to request replacement food benefits or visit the MDHHS website to fill out the required forms. More information is available at the link below.

25 years later, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the first responders, service members, and everyday Americans who showed incredible courage in the days that followed. We will never forget.

This Friday from 11am-3pm there will be a Community Resource Day at the Belleville Area District Library. Assistance with voter registration, Secretary of State services, and vital records will be available.

There is a travel advisory for Monroe County next Monday.
Southbound I-275 Exit 2 to US-24 will be closed for paving operations in Monroe County from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31. Traffic will be detoured via southbound I-275, southbound I-75, Nadeau Road Exit 18, eastbound Nadeau Road, northbound I-75, and northbound I-275 to US-24.
