Healthcare is Michigan’s largest private-sector employer — & nurses are at its heart. This #NursesWeek, we recognize their vital role. As republicans threaten Medicaid cuts, we must speak up to protect patients' access to care & our healthcare workforce. ... See MoreSee Less
Let’s move beyond platitudes. This #TeacherAppreciationWeek, let's recognize our educators not just with applause, but with action — by giving them the tools and funding they need to thrive. ... See MoreSee Less
I was honored to return to my alma mater, on behalf of the Detroit Caucus, to present a Legislative Tribute to star Cass Technical High School wrestlers Cyrus Woodberry and Ta’ziyah Singletary.
The pair became the first Cass Tech wrestlers to qualify for the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Individual State Wrestling Finals. Cyrus became the first wrestling state champion from Cass Tech, winning the 106-pound weight class as a freshman. Ta’ziyah qualified for the MHSAA State Wrestling Finals at Ford Field.
Cass Tech is in just its second year of competition, and for too many years, wrestlers would train in Detroit, and then wrestle for a suburban high school. Beat the Streets Detroit brought wrestling back to two Detroit high schools and is working actively to expand to other high schools and middle schools. #LoveIsTheWork 💚🤍

The House Democratic Caucus held a press availability following another unproductive week in the Michigan House. It's May and only two bills have been signed into law, making this the least productive start to a legislative term in more than 30 years.
Our agenda included renaming the international Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and Michigan's version of the S.A.V.E. Act which could potentially disenfranchise millions of married women by creating voter registration barriers for them (us), because their last name no longer matches the name on their birth certificate.😳
Meanwhile, Democrats remain focused on addressing safe working environments, pay equity and fighting for a budget that prioritizes the daily needs of children, seniors, and working Michiganders. #LoveIsTheWork

My colleagues and I celebrated International Workers Day by introducing the “Protecting Michigan Workers” bill package. This bold legislation will expand workers’ rights and protect Michigan’s workforce. On #InternationalWorkersDay, we honor the history, courage and daily contributions of working people.

House Republicans are busy renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America today, but they don’t think there’s time to talk about what matters most to Michiganders: protecting free school lunches, decreasing the cost of prescription meds, ending medical debt, and protecting workers’ paychecks. ... I was working in the district, when DPSCD Math Corps students were in Lansing to tour the Capitol. I requested they still stop by so i could meet them.
We used technology to have a great talk with some very impressive students.
The Wayne State University Math Corp was in founded in 1991 as a combined academic and mentoring program for DPSCD students grades 6- 12. It features a summer camp and year-round Saturday programs. I was thrilled to learn we have a future male mathematics teacher in the group, as well as students from my alma mater, Cass Tech High School. 💚🤍
