I testified before the House Labor and Economic Opportunity Appropriations Subcommittee in support of a Legislatively Directed Spending Item (LDSI) request for $3 million for Brillant Detroit. I was joined by Cindy Eggleton, with Brilliant Detroit.
I was proud to lift up is Brilliant Detroit’s investment to expand their comprehensive place-based literacy initiative across Southeast Michigan. The literacy initiatives through Brilliant Detroit are tools that will continue to help close the literacy gaps in communities in SE Michigan, including cities like Pontiac, in addition to Detroit.

A sure sign that summer is here is the opening day of the Northwest Detroit Farmers Market. Join them on Thursday, June 3, as they kick off their 21st year. Over the years, the market has grown into a beloved community hub, providing a platform for local farmers, food producers, and artisans to sell their goods while promoting healthy living. ... I testified before the House Labor and Economic Opportunity Appropriations Subcommittee in support of a Legislatively Directed Spending Item (LDSI) request for $550,000 for the Detroit Parks Coalition. I was joined virtually by Ritchie Harrison, representing Sidewalk Detroit, and Sigal Hemy from the Coalition.
The funds will be used to improve the infrastructure of Detroit parks under the coalition’s care. Safe outdoor spaces like those maintained by the Detroit Parks Coalition are an important resource for Detroiters and the nearly 2 million visitors who come to the city. These parks allow people to enjoy nature safely while supporting the overall wellness and well-being that come from spending time outdoors.
My district includes parts of Rouge Park, the largest park in Detroit and Eliza Howell Park. This investment would be huge, especially for our young people. Growing up during the summer, I stayed outside from sun up until the street lights came on! We've got to invest in safe fun places for our youth to expend all that energy!😎🏃🏽♀️🤽🏾⛹🏾♀️

The annual Mackinac Policy Conference was a whirlwind of ferry rides between the island and Mackinac City. Day one included 10 meetings, with a few receptions sprinkled in between trips on the ferry.
I kicked off day two with another 10 meetings, more receptions, and a "Live from Mackinac" interview with one of my colleagues, Rep. Wooden, on Michigan House Democrats’ priorities.

I testified before the House Labor and Economic Opportunity Appropriations Subcommittee in support of a Legislatively Directed Spending Item (LDSI) request for $3 million for Starfish Family Services. I was joined by Karen Roback, Starfish’s Chief Strategy Officer.
The funding will support the purchase and renovation of a long-vacant former school building in Brightmoor, transforming it into a space for early childhood services and behavioral health support for the broader community.
