There are two premier legislative/political news outlets in Lansing. MIRS is one of them. I was shocked, honored and humbled to have been nominated by one of their reporters (and honorably mentioned by another) for House Member of the Year ... and the only woman I might add😉. I simply show up and put in that work for the people who sent me and all Michiganders. Who knew someone was watching from the sidelines. 😎. They mentioned my work in the child welfare space and how I had an active committee- I chaired Families, Children and Seniors. It was a good run in the Majority, but I'm nowhere near finished! 😍
2025 is going to be filled with great hope and new leadership responsibilities after being elected by my colleagues as both the Detroit Caucus Chair and the Democratic Caucus Chair. Clearly some more folks have been watching from the sidelines and trust what they see in me . 😍💚
For all my Prayer Warriors (you know who you are) get those knee pads ready ... I need y'all, like for real, for real!😍🙏🏾💚

As we begin the countdown to the end of this year and the beginning of another... this scripture dropped in my spirit, "... Brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Philippians 4:8 Negativity should not rule the day, because there are so many more things to be grateful for than not. Please try to remember... where there is breath, there is hope. I testified before the House Criminal Justice Committee as they voted out my bill, HB 5698, that requires the Department of Corrections to screen inmates within 7 days after entering a correctional facility and put together a pre-release plan before they are released.
The bill was brought to me by my friend, the Founder and Director of Silent Cry Inc., Shawanna Vaughn. The mental health of those who are formerly and currently incarcerated is severely tested.
