Yesterday was an important day for our district as I joined local officials in celebrating the opening of the new Eaton County Youth Facility in Charlotte. This facility adds nearly 14,000 square feet to the facility’s space and has two new housing pods with a total of 14 beds, allowing for more of our youth in the juvenile justice system to find a safe space for rehabilitation. This space will offer not only community services opportunities, physical health services and continued educational support, but it will also provide our youth with essential therapy services that ensure they can move through hardship and lead a better life.
Last year, I helped secure $3 million in our state budget for this project. As a legislator and longtime resident of Eaton County, it is important to me that the youth in our community have the support they need to reach their fullest potential in life.
Thank you for the invitation, and I look forward to seeing the continued benefits this facility will bring to the youth in our community.

This is going to be so great for our juvenile justice programming! Thank you for your hard work!
Thank you! I don't remember any other state official who has worked so hard for Eaton County!
You have helped local communities and our County through obtaining $ that continues to improve our services and quality of care for our residents, both young and old. Thank you!!
Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day in Michigan and the USA. District 76 is fortunate because one of our office team is a member of the Odawa Tribe. Yvonne has talked to many people in our district and on this day I would love to honor her and the richness of Michigan’s history. ... See MoreSee Less

Miigwech, Yvonne!!!!
I’ve had a great day and full day in the district. I started the day watching my granddaughters in a volleyball tournament in Charlotte. Bruce and I left and had a great community meeting in Dimondale. I listened to concerns about water and needs. After I attended a Delta Township neighborhood meeting to listen to concerns locally and the presidents reception at Great Lakes Christian College to celebrate their 75th anniversary and present them with a tribute from the state.
All of this while celebrating a great season of the Detroit Tigers, Northern Lights and more importantly the marriage of my legislative director, Joci.
I hope you all are enjoying this beautiful fall weekend.

Michigan continues to prioritize people over politics. We worked together for our children - our future - to get a package of bills signed by the governor.
The bills will improve literacy outcomes, fund school safety, and bolster on-campus mental health resources.
We passed the first time ever $25 million of ongoing dollars for school safety and mental health and yesterday added an additional $125 million.
We continue to prioritize our future - together! It’s been an honor to deliver for our state and hometowns.

Earlier this week, I visited the House of Ruth to present them with a tribute recognizing their 25th anniversary. The House of Ruth is a family-style home for six men with developmental disabilities located in Charlotte. The House of Ruth is a partnership effort between the House of Ruth Board, Peckham Inc., and the Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties.
The House of Ruth was named after Eaton County School Social Worker, Ruth Rypstra, who spent many years working to create high-quality housing options for people with disabilities.
Thank you to the residents and staff of the House of Ruth for the warm welcome, and congratulations again on your 25 years!

I understand all the work that goes into crafting a state budget, including a school aid supplemental. I'm happy we could invest $150 million directly into our school districts so our educators and youngest Michiganders can have the resources and mental health support they need.
Here is what this investment means for school districts in House District 76:

I have been working with TruGreen Foundation on a grant to support the new 545 square-foot butterfly garden in honor of Grand Ledge’s former Mayor Thom Sowle who passed away in September of 2022. I was honored to join his wife and members of the community for a ceremony held at the north end of JayceePark.
Grand Ledge is one of the beautiful parts of our district.
