Earlier this month, I was recognized by the Michigan Library Association as their 2024 Legislator of the Year. Libraries are essential to every community and residents of all ages. It is integral that we continue to support and adequately fund our local libraries. Thank you to all the dedicated librarians, staff and volunteers who keep these institutions alive and thriving, and thank you to the Michigan Library Association for this recognition! ... This morning I was invited to First Baptist Church of Eaton Rapids for Pastor Appreciation. I presented Pastor John Wright with a tribute from the State of Michigan.
The room was full to honor Pastor John and the good he and his congregation does for our community.
I appreciate the kindness the congregation gave to me.

Why are you honoring a man who doesn't Share your stance on abortion? That seems hypocritical to me. Shady!!
so you must recognize all the pastors in Eaton County in your district then, or just the one???
I went back to Waverly Community Schools this week. We toured the high school and saw the improvements from the community investment. It’s beautiful.
While we were there, we honored Pete Sherry as our Teacher of the Month. Mr. Sherry is a beloved teacher at Waverly and his students were excited to greet us. Go Warriors!

Some mornings are more beautiful. I was invited to enjoy time harvesting corn with the Orr family. Michigan Corn Growers Associates makes certain I am always educated on issues for agriculture. Jim and his dad were great hosts. It was a peaceful morning learning about the technology of farm equipment and the challenges farmers go through to bring food to our tables. I appreciate the beauty of our county. ... See MoreSee Less

Fuck that shit. Growing corn, wheat and beans with fossil fueled machinery puts almost a ton of carbon in the air per acre every season. I hope he's burning biodisel. Ag emissions are responsible for 21% of greenhouse gas pollution. Restaurant grease dumpsters are a good source of biomass that can be turned into a renewable fuel with a simple chemical reaction by mixing it with ethanol or methanol and lye. When the triglyceride molecules are cracked into glycerin and free fatty acids, you can use the glycerin that settles out due to its higher density to make soap or compost it for fertilizer and use the less dense liquid fatty acid that floats to the top to run a diesel engine once it's been through a filter to remove microscopic impurities.
This morning, I visited with Brittany at Brittany Parks Process Consulting to present her with her June Small Business of the Month award.
Brittany- congratulations again on your recognition and much appreciation for your efforts in Eaton County!

I’m honored to receive this year’s recipient of the Champion Award from the Michigan Association of Conservation Districts.

Fantastic. Great recognition, well deserved
Congratulations! Well deserved 😀❤️
We are grateful to have retained the two positions that you defended, as well as other advocacy work you have done on behalf of our agricultural community.
I spent most of my career as a healthcare champion. I spent 22 years at University of Michigan Health – Sparrow. My life experiences inspired me to support Public Acts 271 and 272 of 2023, which increase the penalties for assaulting a healthcare worker or volunteer. Additionally, I sponsored Public Act 5 of 2023, which provided $75 million for hospital workforce recruitment, retention and training in the fiscal year 2023 state budget.
Michigan Health & Hospital Association honored me with the special recognition award for my extensive contribution in healthcare. I’m very thankful and will continue work important to our state.

That is wonderful! Can we move forward with the Safe Patient Care Acts now? Full transparency from the hospitals should be any easy ask since they are here solely for the community, and proper staffing not only benefits the patient but the ability to attract and retain staff.
Congratulations! We need more health care support. I am glad you are working for us.
Congrats! Healthcare in Michigan is appreciative of your efforts! 💜
Many of us have been touched by someone who suffers from opioid addictions. My family understands. We have lost family to this awful addiction trying everything to save them. The basis of rehabilitation is having safe housing. Yesterday, I joined a bipartisan group of legislators and Judge Harvey Hoffman (founder of treatment courts and former Eaton County judge) to do a groundbreaking for a phase 2 of Andy’s Place. It’s a supportive housing system with wrap around services to protect families.
I was able to speak about our family and the hope that Andy’s Place has brought to families. People should always be over politics.

This is great! Another thing that would be a BIG help is if the House would pass some version of HB 4707 to close the loopholes that insurance companies are using to deny SUD care. My understanding is that Andy's place is only accessible through the court system, which means that folks need to be criminalized to access that care. If people are getting to the criminal system because of addiction, it is because the mental health system failed them at every other opportunity. Please work on 4707 to make it a bill you feel comfortable supporting and pass it this year so that families don't have to wait until their children are dead or arrested to get the help they need.
Yesterday was an important day for our district as I joined local officials in celebrating the opening of the new Eaton County Youth Facility in Charlotte. This facility adds nearly 14,000 square feet to the facility’s space and has two new housing pods with a total of 14 beds, allowing for more of our youth in the juvenile justice system to find a safe space for rehabilitation. This space will offer not only community services opportunities, physical health services and continued educational support, but it will also provide our youth with essential therapy services that ensure they can move through hardship and lead a better life.
Last year, I helped secure $3 million in our state budget for this project. As a legislator and longtime resident of Eaton County, it is important to me that the youth in our community have the support they need to reach their fullest potential in life.
Thank you for the invitation, and I look forward to seeing the continued benefits this facility will bring to the youth in our community.
