Yesterday was a busy district day. I ended the day celebrating the career of Gregg Ginebaugh. Gregg retired as Delta Township Fire Department chief. All of us in Delta Township and Eaton County thank you for your service. It was honor to present the Chief with a tribute from the state.

In case you missed it, Eaton County is setting the standard for community well-being by unveiling Michigan's first refrigerated smart food lockers. It was an honor to join our local community partners earlier this week to introduce this new initiative to combat hunger in our communities.

Today, the Michigan House of Representatives came together for a 9/11 Memorial Service. Every representative brought a first responder. My guest today was Chief Paul Brentar from Charlotte Michigan Police Department.

September 10th is National Hunger Action Day. It was an honor to spend the morning today welcoming the first-ever smart food locker in the state to our district. Nearly 14,000 people in Eaton County don't know where their next meal is coming from, and thanks to the partnership between the Greater Lansing Food Bank, Eaton Community Health, University of Michigan Health-Sparrow, The Community Foundation and the food pantries and emergency housing shelters in Eaton County, residents in need will have 24/7 access to shelf-safe and refrigerated foods to feed their families.

Big news for little learners! Thanks to a historic investment in the FY 2025 state budget, access to free, high-quality PreK has expanded in Michigan! Starting in the fall of 2024, all Michigan four-year-olds can qualify for free PreK.
Attending a quality PreK program has a positive impact on a child’s life by preparing them for success in kindergarten and beyond. Michigan’s PreK program, the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), is ranked #1 in the nation for quality.

Our budget advisor, Joe Fedewa, has been an integral part of our office, the House of Representatives and our state. Joe works closely with the senate and budget office teams to build our successful state budgets. The House is fortunate to have great talent. Last week Joe was honored with the Central Michigan University President’s Award. Congratulations Joe!
