We are truly living in troubling times, our democracy and voting rights in the black community are under attack, we must all continue to push back and fight. Our ancestors gave their lives for our community to have the right to VOTE!
Here is my press release regarding the disturbing turn of events that occurred in Tennessee as it pertains to redistricting:
“We are seeing a coordinated effort across the country to redraw districts in ways that entrench political power rather than strengthen democracy. Voters should be choosing their elected officials, not watching politicians manipulate district lines to silence opposition and guarantee outcomes before elections even begin,” said state Rep. Helena Scott (D-Detroit), historian of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus and vice chair of the Detroit Caucus.

I was happy to meet with Wayne County Community College Professors and Staff during Advocacy Day at the Capitol. I was
also excited to see my constituent Yvette McElroy Anderson (WC3) leading the group to discuss the needs of the college and students.

Excited to attend the official ground breaking ceremony for the Littlefield Skate Park that will open in September at Noble Elementary Middle School Dr. Kevin Hall, Principal. This skate park was the brain child of students at Noble School and the efforts of members of the Littlefield Community Group all within my HD8. I love when the community has a vision and they work hard with stakeholders/community partners to realize the dream! #hd8strong🦋

LANSING, Mich., April 23, 2026 — State Rep. Helena Scott (D-Detroit) will host a press conference on Thursday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. to announce her HOPE (Helping Opportunity Prosper Everywhere) Zones package, which would designate economically distressed communities as special zones where tax incentives and reinvested local tax revenue are used to attract businesses, support job training and fund neighborhood development.

Extremely proud to have introduced my Hope Zone legislation (Helping Opportunity Prosper Everywhere)this is an 18 bill package:HB5852-5869…the Mission of this transformative package is to revitalize Michigans distressed urban and rural communities by addressing systemic economic challenges throughout our state through targeted investments, tax incentives, and workforce development. The Hope Zone will aim to create sustainable growth, equitable access and stronger, healthier communities. This package has been 2 years in the making, I worked with community stakeholders from the Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus Chair, Keith D. Williams and his board members to develop this legislation.
