The Reparative Justice Package, which I am proud to co-sponsor, will confront historical and ongoing inequities with honesty and provide much-needed data to help shape policy. As Historian of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus, it's important to me to address the disparities impacting Black Michiganders so that we can build a brighter and more equitable future for all.

It’s my honor to serve my constituents, businesses and community organizations in HD8. A very important part of my job is bringing back dollars to the district. Last month I testified for appropriation dollars for Friends of the Children Detroit with Executive Director, Derschaun Brown…I was able to obtain $300,000 for their program. Additionally, I was also able to obtain $500,000 for the Ferndale Firehouse Rehabilitation, I’m happy to continue to work hard, serve and make a difference in my HD8🇺🇸 #HD8Strong🦋

I take protecting older Michiganders seriously. Financial exploitation costs victims nearly $3 billion every year. That’s why I supported strengthening Michigan’s financial exploitation laws. Now, financial advisors can step in and delay suspicious transactions if they believe an older resident is being deceived, giving you more peace of mind and helping keep you safe.

When House Dems were in charge, we voted to phase out taxes on most retirement income. I fought to continue this relief in the subsequent budgets, putting up to $1,000 back into the pockets of nearly half a million households. For older adults living on a fixed income, this provides real relief and much-needed financial breathing room.

It was an honor to put forth a resolution to memorialize the life and legacy of Frederick Durhal Jr., a former state representative from Detroit who believed public service was fundamentally about people and lived that value every day. Let us remember a man who was as dedicated to the people he served as much as he was to the city he loved.
