April 2025 is community college's month in the great State of Michigan! As a former professor at Washtenaw Community College, I know the importance of our community colleges in raising our next generation of leaders. They provide the promise of quality, affordable education for high school students pursuing dual enrollment, recent graduates gaining their associates degree, or adults in the community looking to get engaged in a new career field.
Thank you to the Michigan Community College Association for hosting students from Schoolcraft Community College, who I had the pleasure of meeting with today, and other schools from across the state.

The community townhall with State Representative Jimmie Wilson Jr. went amazing today! While Republicans stay away from in-person town halls, Democrats will continue to be accessible and present in the community to their constituents and build trust.

International students enrich our campuses and communities. The Trump Administration's oppressive authoritarian actions seek to silence those living in our communities, but we will not bend to the will of dictators.
They seek to have devastating consequences for education, research, and a dangerous chilling effect on free speech in our country. We must stand united in support of all people who are part of our community.

What an amazing time at the Northville State of the Community today hosted by Mayor Brian Turnbull. It was great seeing and hearing from so many community leaders like Township Supervisor Mark Abbo and Superintendent Dr. RJ Webber. Thank you to the folks at the township for inviting me!

Free speech is the bedrock of our democracy. I stand with colleagues across Michigan in condemning the recent detention and threatened deportation of Mahmoud Khalil. As a lawful permanent resident being denied due process rights and detained without evidence or any assertion of breaking the law, the attack on his freedom is a threat against anyone who chooses to exercise their right to speak.
