What a privilege today to be at the Board of Regents special meeting on campus, where they confirmed the selection of the 17th President of the University of Michigan C. Cybele Raver. It was great to be invited with my fellow Ann Arbor state reps and to meet our new impressive president from Vanderbilt University. Can’t wait to get to know her better in the months and years to come. And a special thanks to President Domenico Grasso for serving twice as the interim president during this challenging time for the University. Go Blue!

Yesterday, I had a great morning volunteering at Freedom River’s clean up event. It was so great to catch up with everyone there and see how far along they have come since I first secured state funding for this ADA-compliant outdoor recreational facility for veterans and their families. Now there is a fishing pond with free rods and boats and pickleball courts and a softball field. It will be even more amazing when they can have camping facilities and the funds for a wellness center.

Yesterday, a wonderful woman from the Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner's Office came to our house for free to talk with us about how to design a rain garden in an area of our front lawn that keeps flooding. So excited to create an oasis of native plants that will be both beautiful and functional in our water-logged space! If you are thinking of planting a water garden be sure to give them a call!

Yesterday, was the most gorgeous day to visit the Whitney Farmstead. Though I have visited the farm a few times, it was fun to be there with Rep. Debbie Dingell, who was experiencing the beauty of Matthew and Maliaka’s land, sheep and cattle herds for the first time. With the congresswoman, were a few members of the Michigan Farm Bureau, who were as interested as us to learn more about the challenges faced by these small regenerative family farmers. All in all a great day, and I went home with some of their delicious ground beef sold at their farm store on site.

Thank you to everyone who attended my town hall on Voting Rights at the Hamburg Library last evening. A special shout out to the Michigan Deputy Secretary of State Aghogho Edevbie who emphasized throughout the event that, though no election system is perfect, elections in Michigan are extremely secure and, in cases of illegal voting, safeguards are in place so that those individuals are prosecuted. Thanks, as well, to Mika McAskill, the Director of Public Engagement who lives in Hamburg, for encouraging everyone to ask lots of questions. The deputy also told us how the Michigan SOS handled the federal DOJ monitors who were here to observe several of our primary elections.

Last night, we had a great turn out for our Eastern Washtenaw County Election Security Town Hall. Thanks to Rep. Debbie Dingell’s office for doing most of the organizing with the Secretary of State’s team, who answered questions from the audience —as did our clerks and fellow Ann Arbor area state reps—for more than an hour. Tomorrow night, I am hosting one at the Hamburg Library at 5:30 pm. Please come with your questions for the SOS team.

Today is the last day of the Howell Melon Festival. It is a great family outing for all ages! Yesterday, I spent the afternoon there, checking out the craft fair in the Howell Opera House, buying some melons and, of course, melon ice cream! Between the kids activities (street hockey!), the food trucks, and the many vendors, it’s a great annual event!

Yesterday, I attended Rep. Debbie Dingell’s Senior Town Hall at the Dexter Senior Center. After we all introduced ourselves, the panel of aging experts in our state answered questions
on everything from the cost of living and housing to Medicare concerns, scams on the elderly and general healthcare worries. The turnout was great and the questions thoughtful and wide ranging. Was honored to be included!

Today is the last day of the 14th annual Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival, a public art show with live music and family activities in Monument Park. This morning, Rep. Debbie Dingell and I made an early visit to admire some of the many works by the 80 artists who spent the week painting scenes throughout the Dexter area. @The free weekend also includes live music, a Quick Draw competition, an awards ceremony and family activities. Read more about Paint Dexter, the weekend schedule and what visitors can expect below.
