Hello House District 32!
This week is CPR and AED Awareness Week. When someone’s heart stops, immediate CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) use can double or even triple their chance of survival.
With students home this summer and away from CPR-trained staff, it’s important for caregivers and community members to be able to act quickly in an emergency.
Local CPR classes and additional resources can be found here: atlas.heart.org
Let’s all do our part to make our community safer! #CPRWeek

- Press Release from the Washtenaw County Health Department -
"YPSILANTI, Mich., June 3, 2025 – The Washtenaw County Health Department has released a new Opioid Report detailing recent local drug overdose data trends. All overdose deaths decreased by 25% from 2023 to 2024.
“Our analysis shows that local opioid-related overdoses reached a nine-year low in 2024,” says Deanna Price, MS, health promotion coordinator with Washtenaw County Health Department. “This is incredibly encouraging, as these deaths had been consistently increasing from 2019 to 2022.”
“Increased access to harm reduction tools, treatment, and recovery support is saving lives here in our community,” says Jimena Loveluck, MSW, health officer with the Washtenaw County Health Department. “We look forward to building on this progress with our local opioid settlement funding.”
Sixty-six Washtenaw County residents died from an overdose in 2024. Twenty-four died from a non-opioid related overdose and forty-two died from an opioid-related overdose."

On May 22 1972, the state of Michigan ratified the Equal Rights Amendment. This was part of an effort to create a new federal amendment that would have guaranteed the rights of all women here in the United States.
While this constitutional amendment did not get to the finish line, this anniversary is a strong reminder that we have so much more work to do to make sure all people have equal rights under the law.

1 in 4 Michiganders rely on Medicaid — that's
2.6 million people. Kids. Seniors. New moms.
Veterans. People battling cancer.
Michigan Republicans want to zero out the department that provides it. This isn't budgeting. It's sabotage.
They can't replace that funding — and they won't try. We all pay the price when they gamble with public health.
Michigan Democrats aren't backing down!
