Today on International Workers Day, I proudly joined my colleagues to introduce a bill package that restores balance, fairness, and respect in the workplace for Michigan workers while returning local control to our communities.
My bill repeals PA 98 of 2011, which banned Project Labor Agreements (PLAs) on public construction projects. Repealing this law restores local control, empowering communities to use PLAs to negotiate fair wages, ensure safety, and strengthen labor standards.
Too often, border communities like mine have seen out-of-state contractors undercut Michigan workers by skirting our laws and paying substandard wages. This bill will help change that by strengthening protections for our workforce and ensuring that Michigan jobs go to Michigan workers who deserve fair wages and dignity on the job.

The federal government’s proposed budget includes a dangerous move to eliminate Head Start funding, which would deprive 222 children and families in our district alone of essential early education and care services. This would have devastating consequences across Southwest Michigan, where working families striving for economic stability are already struggling to find affordable, high-quality childcare. Flowers Early Learning currently supports 583 children across Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren Counties, and has positively impacted over 40,000 children since 1972. Losing Head Start would not only harm these children but worsen our region’s childcare crisis.
I urge everyone to call Congressmen Huizenga and Walberg to voice your opposition to this harmful decision.

White House plan would eliminate Head Start, make sweeping health cuts
www.axios.com
A leaked plan shows programs like Head Start, some mental health funding and efforts to prevent teen pregnancy could soon end.
I was honored to attend the ribbon cutting for the first completed Michigan section of the Marquette Greenway in New Buffalo. This major milestone is part of a 60-mile non-motorized trail connecting Chicago to New Buffalo.
The trail creates new opportunities for recreation, transportation, and community connection, while enhancing access to scenic landscapes along the southern shore of Lake Michigan. Thank you to everyone who made this possible!
